What the job involves
- We are looking for an accomplished and highly technical Engineering Manager to lead the Supply Operations engineering team. Supply Operations builds the products and technology that enable Lime's global operations teams and logistics partners to manage, maintain, and operate our fleet efficiently
- The team owns the end-to-end experience for Supply users, including the Supply App used by operators in the field, LP Dashboard used by logistics partners to manage their operations, and the services and platform capabilities that power these experiences. The team works across mobile, web, and backend systems, and operates at the intersection of product experience, operational efficiency, and fleet technology
- As the Engineering Manager for Supply Operations, you will lead a diverse team of mobile and backend engineers responsible for some of the most important tools used to operate Lime's global fleet. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Operations, Security, and other engineering teams to define strategy, shape the roadmap, and deliver reliable products that improve the productivity and effectiveness of our operations
- This role requires both strong people leadership and technical depth. You will be expected to develop senior technical leaders within the team, participate in architectural and technical decisions, and create an environment where engineers can independently own complex problems from product definition through implementation and rollout
- Be both highly technical and an effective people manager
- Lead and develop a team of mobile and backend engineers, including senior technical leaders
- Partner with Product, Design, Operations, and Engineering to define strategy and drive roadmap creation and execution
- Lead end-to-end delivery of complex initiatives across mobile, backend, and web systems
- Participate in technical design and drive engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence
- Develop and empower technical leaders, creating clear ownership and increasing the team's overall leverage
- Measure team impact, set clear expectations and goals, and partner with leadership on staffing and organizational priorities
Our take
In recent years, electric-powered mobility companies have attracted an extraordinary amount of interest and funding, in part due to rising eco-friendly sentiment, and in part because of the race to "find the next Uber". Lime is one such company, that has rapidly scaled across multiple geographies to be a key player in the fight for market leadership.
Lime, along with its competitors, has had to grapple with regulation in many of its target markets, but nonetheless has steadily increased its footprint. Since its launch, the company has facilitated millions of trips, making it one of the biggest companies of its kind. Interestingly, the CEO has stated that "cars are our true business rivals—not other scooter companies", suggesting that its biggest business challenge will be to get families to give up their second cars.
With a presence that spans an impressive number of regions - in 2023, Lime began operating in Qatar - the company has cemented itself in the micromobility market and stands to profit from the increasing popularity of these types of services. A substantial increase in ridership enabled Lime to achieve "free cash flow positivity" two years in a row, with suggestions it will pursue a US IPO in 2027.
