Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, finance, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred
- 4-6+ years of high-performance corporate experience in banking, consulting, operations, or similar role in a high growth startup (FinTech experience a plus)
- Direct and concise verbal and written communication skills with exceptional project management skills
- Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to use data analysis to build actionable insights
- Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Excel/Sheets, Notion, Project management software, no-code software, and the Google Suite of products
- An ability to quickly get up to speed on new areas and a desire to operate outside of your comfort zone
- Experience and comfort interacting across levels of an organization, including senior management and external members
- An eye for detail as well as the ability to zoom out and see the bigger picture
- Prior experience with handling and exercising discretion over sensitive matters and material
What the job involves
- Equi is seeking a Chief of Staff who loves high octane startups, can take the lead and is excited at working hand-in-hand with our CEO
- Strategy & Planning (20%)
- Reporting to the CEO, tackle anything under the sun that he would undertake if he had more time including but not limited to, leading strategic initiatives, providing cross-functional team oversight, measuring team performance, developing and working on special projects and more
- Own our business cadence, by planning and facilitating our weekly leadership meetings, bi-weekly all-hands meetings, quarterly executive offsites, and annual planning
- Create structure and focus for broad, ambiguous ideas that the executive team is exploring and bring forth data-driven recommendations for action in a timely manner
- Operations (50%)
- Be an internal owner/champion of our internal wiki (Notion) and project management (Asana) systems and think critically about our entire tech ops stack
- Streamline business processes: Analyze existing processes across departments and identify opportunities for optimization and automation. Develop and implement standardized procedures, workflows, and tools to streamline operations and enhance productivity
- Work with the executive team to define and execute operational strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives. Anticipate future operational needs and scalability requirements and proactively develop plans to address them
- Project Management (30%)
- Provide ad-hoc support on projects ranging in size including research, modeling, internal initiatives, future initiatives, etc
- Work cross functionally to ensure our most important projects are moving forward on time and within budget
- Communicate with teams internally with the goal of motivating, aligning interests, and wielding influence with team members at all levels of the company
- Assist in facilitating and continuously improving company operating cadence (e.g. executive team meetings, leadership off-sites, KPIs and quarterly OKRs reviews)
- Communicating, tracking, reinforcing alignment, and flagging when there’s drift on KPIs or Objectives
Our take
When investing, individuals tend towards passive indexes of stocks and bonds, but the wealthy elite rely on complex portfolios of alternative investments – which is where they make most of their returns. These portfolios rely on teams of skilled investment professionals and carry large operating expenses, making them inaccessible to the average investor. Equi uses technology to mimic these teams, providing access to portfolios of diverse and typically inaccessible investments for individuals to make the most of their money.
Equi was founded in 2020 in response to the lack of diversified portfolios for the average investor. Its original product still required significant funds, with a minimum investment of $1 million, but the company has reduced this by over half to $350k. With this change, the company now caters for all accredited investors, which represent roughly 1 in 10 households in the US. Its ultimate goal is to present portfolios for all individual investors.
Past funding raised by Equi went towards the reduction in minimum investment, and it can be expected that further rounds would also contribute towards its goal of providing alternative investment access for everyone. Its flagship portfolio boasts an impressive annual target return between 17 and 23% and the company received significant investment over 2022, though only time can tell whether Equi can continue to deliver such high returns across long periods.
