Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of experience working on highly technical products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, or user researcher
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge of how backend services power software products
- Demonstrated experience applying the techniques and methods of modern product discovery
- Working knowledge of Agile product delivery process and the product manager’s role on an XP team
- Proven ability to engage with engineers, technical writers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship
- Demonstrated ability to communicate user problems in well-structured, research-informed narratives
What the job involves
- Develop a deep knowledge of user needs by regularly interviewing game developers in our target market, understanding how customers are using our product today, and researching industry trends
- Collaborate closely with your team’s engineers to discover effective solutions, working backwards from a clearly defined user need
- Find innovative ways to experiment and test solution ideas to get feedback early, iterating until your team is confident the end-result will be both valuable and easy to use
- Partner with your team’s technical writer to ensure solutions are thoroughly documented
- Ensure our Customer Success team is equipped to advise studios how to effectively use your team’s solutions to power their game features
- Partner with our CEO, Director of Sales, and Product Marketer to understand business needs and contribute relevant context to your team
Our take
Pragma offers game studios a range of applications that allow them to build, operate, and scale live, social games. Despite only launching in 2020, the platform already boasts an impressive stable of customers including Wonderstorm (The Dragon Prince), and Midnight Society (Co-founded by people behind Halo and Call of Duty).
As the need increases for new games to be multiplayer and cross-platform enabled, it’s clever of Pragma to offer a back-end toolkit that can take care of much of this infrastructure development. Essentially, small to midsize studios can focus more on actual game development and vastly reduce launch times.
The people behind the startup are no strangers to the $200 billion gaming industry, which goes some way in explaining its early stage performance and impressive fundraises. CTO Chris Cobb was an Engineering Lead at the hugely successful Riot Games, while CEO Eden Chen founded well known immersive studio Fishermen Labs.
It looks as though Pragma’s plan to target the growing number of smaller breakout studios led by well-known creators is a good strategy for the time being, at least, as the company gradually expands its range of products. It has received significant funding too, with $12.8 million awarded in 2025 being channelled into expanding its infrastructure and game-dev tools.
