- You are familiar with popular libraries like React, NextJS, Redux, CSS Modules, Tailwind, and Rails
- You understand the browser environment and how it interprets code - HTTP/S, Critical Render Path, CORS, Caching, CDNs
- You have an understanding of good programming principles SOLID, DRY and have a good problem solving approach and mindset
- When building features you consider A11y, security, SEO, performance, testing, observability, i18n, and Typing (if applicable)
- You know how to monitor and manage the application in production: you build it, you run it, you love it!
What the job involves
- Along with other Engineering team members, you will build beautiful and adaptable web front-ends on top of scalable microservices. Most of these serve our sellers and buyers, and some are geared towards our own customer services and internal operations teams
- You make sure that your web components will work well and be responsive to: desktop, tablet, and mobile screens. And by measuring and monitoring system performance, you optimise the performance of your products
- In addition, you will use A/B experiments, agreed upon with your Product Manager and User Experience Designer, and backed by data analysis, to add product features and deliver the best user experience on the platform
Our take
In the past, it was only possible to purchase special items such as rare coins, antiques, and vintage cars at auctions held at physical locations. These days, many people prefer online auctions, but whilst they provide a wider range of objects for sale, this comes at the cost of proper pricing and quality control. Catawiki provides an expert-regulated online auctioning marketplace where users can browse and bid for special objects easily via the web or mobile app.
The objects listed on Catawiki are curated, valued, and verified by in-house experts, with over 100,000 objects passing through the marketplace every week. In this approach, the company has combined the community knowledge found at traditional auctions with the benefits of digital auctioning platforms, occupying a space that has long remained empty, and avoiding competition from bidding marketplace giants such as eBay.
Catawiki has received good funding in the past, which contributed to it becoming the success it is today. A recent venture has seen the company expand to serve artisanal artists with its handmade products auction series.
