Who you are

Minimum 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on front-end development
Experience building and deploying new web applications from scratch
Deep proficiency and extensive hands-on experience with React and its core principles (hooks, context API, etc.)
Strong understanding of JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web standards
Experience with UI component libraries and design systems
Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand, Context API)
Familiarity with modern frontend build pipelines and tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite, Babel, npm/yarn)
Experience writing and maintaining frontend tests using frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, or similar

Desirable

Experience with server-side rendering (SSR) or static site generation (SSG) frameworks (e.g., Next.js, Remix)
Experience with performance monitoring and optimization tools
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Experience with implementing authentication systems

What the job involves

As our Lead Software Engineer for Web Applications, you’ll own the user interfaces that power our robots in the real world
You'll use modern web technologies to build applications spanning multiple critical surfaces:
Fleet management applications – giving customers and integration engineers the ability to command, configure, and monitor entire fleets
On-robot interfaces – touch-based UIs hosted directly on the robots, ensuring smooth interactions in the field
Authoring tools – enabling our world-class roboticists to write and test robot behaviors
This is a high-impact role where your technical leadership will directly impact how advanced robotic systems come to life
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust web applications Lead frontend architectural decisions, ensuring solutions are well-engineered, maintainable, and aligned with long-term technical strategy
Translate requirements and designs into high-quality, production-ready code
Own the end-to-end delivery of frontend features, from technical design to deployment and monitoring
Collaborate effectively with backend engineers, product management, designers, and other stakeholders
Actively participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge
Stay current with frontend best practices and tooling, evaluating and recommending new technologies where appropriate

Our take

Increasing complexity in supply chains means manufacturing and logistics are incorporating more robotics and automation. However, these systems can be cumbersome and costly, meaning it’s difficult to adapt them to new demand. Robust.AI's platform enables rapid, no-code setup of robotic transport systems in warehouses, to help transport materials and tools.

The company's aim is to develop an all-purpose cognitive engine to produce robots that can make decisions in open-ended environments. The potential applications of this are sweeping, even if Robust.AI's beginnings are fairly modest, with plans to build out its own datasets and make strategic alliances with companies across different verticals.

With an experienced founding team at the helm, Robust.AI is making steady and careful progress in what is growing to be a multi-billion-dollar global robotics industry. It is well-funded and pursuing early projects such as a phased model partnership with ShipLab to deploy collaborative mobile robots at its Vista facility, with ShipLab able to validate performance at each stage before expansion.
