What the job involves
- Join our dynamic and innovative team at Xero as an Engineering Manager for our Product Market Fit division
- As a leader in the Small Business Accounting Space, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to oversee the development and technical strategies on our embedded accounting products
- Lead and manage a team of engineers to develop and maintain high-quality embedded accounting platforms
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure the successful delivery of core accounting services for embedded systems, including setting goals and timelines, managing resources and budget, and identifying and mitigating potential risks
- Foster a collaborative and positive team dynamic, providing guidance and support to team members and promoting a culture of continuous learning and growth
- Utilize your strong technical background to provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and effectively oversee the planning, design, and implementation of new features and enhancements to our API services on ledger, core accounting features, insights and reporting, ensuring they meet the needs and expectations of our partners
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve our embedded services
- Manage and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including cross-functional teams, clients, and external partners, to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the development process
- Oversee the hiring, training, and development of new team members, and provide ongoing mentorship and support to help them reach their full potential
- Manage and analyze key metrics and performance indicators to assess the success of our embedded platforms and make data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvement
- Work with other engineering managers and leaders to share knowledge, best practices, and resources, and support the overall growth and success of the engineering team
- What Success Looks Like:
- Divisions have a shared understanding of the cross-team plan including, the priorities, work sequencing and how they collaborate to enable more effective delivery of products that our customers love
- Assess risks and issues - ensure they are actively managed; The right people are connected to remove the concerns quickly
- Our Product & Technology teams are well supported to do their best work, as their plans are clear and they are minimally blocked, which enables them to bring quality products to our customers more effectively
- Senior Leaders are aware of the state of our key initiatives and are contributing to the enablement of the work, as needed (ie blocker removal)

It has a strong rival in Intuit QuickBooks, which offers similar services, but competes by being most effective for growing startups, and having an incredibly simple user experience.
A series of acquisitions and partnerships, including the purchase of Instafile in 2018, have consolidated Xero’s market share. The company continues to add new integrations, such as with Vehocheck Workshop Manager, and the 2023 launched Beautiful Business Fund that will help small businesses accelerate growth.
