Role
Who you are
- 14+ years of professional experience in software engineering, 6+ years in a managerial role, 2+ years in a role leading managers
- Experience in crypto, professional or personal, or an interest in the same
- Experience successfully onboarding onto a new organization as a manager or director
- Track record of sourcing and hiring top engineering talent, including managerial talent
- Proven success leading engineering-wide initiatives
- Demonstrated history of collaborating with product to come up with a product roadmap
- Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly working with business stakeholders
- Engineering degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
What the job involves
- BitGo is looking for an experienced Director of Engineering who will lead our Wallets Engineering division to innovate on core wallet technology and provide the best wallet experience for our customers
- This is not a hands-on coding role, but the Director of Engineering is expected to be closely involved technically in the work of the team
- This is an onsite role from our office in Palo Alto, CA
- Develop innovative wallet solutions for a diversity of clients, from crypto-native companies to Fortune 500 companies
- Be accountable for the user experience of our wallet platform
- Collaborate with Product, Marketing, Sales, and other key stakeholders to set the product and technical vision and roadmap for Wallets Engineering, and to successfully execute against the same
- Coach engineering managers to grow the next generation of senior engineering leaders at BitGo
- Actively foster an engineering-wide culture that embodies our values of open communication, collaboration, accountability, craftsmanship, and a client first approach
Our take
The digital asset industry is maturing, with asset companies looking to shore up their positions by adding secure custody capabilities. This is good news for BitGo, an independent, regulated cryptocurrency custodian company providing security, custody, and liquidity solutions.
BitGo’s flagship multi-signature wallet solution helps its clients mitigate risk and optimize capital efficiency. The company has subsequently expanded to also cover a number of areas that are critical for any holder of major crypto assets - like portfolio and tax management. In this, BitGo was smart to focus exclusively on institutional clients: there’s huge appetite among larger players to expedite the mainstreaming of crypto, and they’ll need precisely BitGo’s tools to get there.
BitGo was in talks to be acquired by PayPal, and most recently Galaxy Digital, which speaks to a strong institutional confidence in the crypto wave. In spite of a rocky year for the digital assets (which now sees BitGo suing Galaxy Digital for pulling out of the acquisition deal), BitGo has manoeuvred itself into a central position to capitalize on what, now, seems a near-inevitable period of mass adoption. Exemplifying this, the BitGo Ventures wing of the company was launched in 2024 to partner with and invest in cutting edge blockchain and fintech startups.
