Who you are
- Professional Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in information technology and security, with proven experience executing complex projects in a startup environment
- Compliance Expertise: Strong knowledge of security frameworks (SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001) and EdTech regulations (FERPA, COPPA)
- Execution Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-impact projects with a high level of ownership and attention to detail
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to simplify complex security topics and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
What the job involves
- As Director of Information Technology (IT) & Security, you will build and lead our IT and information security functions from the ground up, ensuring the systems and practices that power our work are reliable, secure, and scalable.
- In this hands-on, individual contributor role, you’ll manage everything from infrastructure to incident response while advising on strategic technology decisions. You’ll report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and play a critical role in shaping our operational backbone
- IT Management: Establish and manage a helpdesk, develop and enforce technology policies and procedures, oversee vendor management, and train our team on the effective use of technology
- Security Program Management: Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive security program aligned with industry standards (SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001) and EdTech regulations (FERPA, COPPA)
- Project Execution: Lead and execute complex IT and security projects, ensuring effective management and timely delivery in a fast-paced startup environment
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, product, legal, and other teams to integrate security across all operations and communicate risks and strategies clearly to the organization
