Despite launching in just 2021, Aptos has soared to Unicorn status following an impressive funding round that saw major participation from players like PayPal Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz. It's the company’s promise to build a layer 1 blockchain that has attracted all this attention as it outperforms competitors on critical metrics like scaleability and speed.
Aptos is created by the team behind Facebook’s recently shuttered cryptocurrency endeavor Diem (previously Libra), who left the company when Diem sold its tech assets to Silvergate Capital. Now, Silvergate Capital is itself an investor in the new project. This goes to show the confidence the Aptos' team commands, and the increasingly mainstream industry appetite for a blockchain that can sustain major operations.
Developers from companies like Binance, Anchorage, and Coinbase are already part of Aptos. This talent, in combination with 2024 VC funding and its remarkable 2022 Series A, will fuel the team’s progress and is a hugely promising start for the young venture.
