Who you are
- At least 8 years of relevant Graphic Design or Art Direction experience
- Ability to lead ideation and execution across a range of conceptual territories, and provide the team with both short and long term vision
- Deep understanding of the Brand Creative/Marketing process
- Experience working and communicating directly with Brand and Product Marketing partners
- Experience building inspiration/concept presentations, and mood boards for a variety of concepts and direction
- Presentation/Communication style: Clear, Concise, and Thoughtful (strong verbal and written skills). Ability to present new ideas or seasonal concepts to small and large groups, including presenting to executive leaders, and external partners or customers
- Ability to ensure key Brand Creative gates/dates are met, tools are effectively crafted and used, and able to lead cross-functional teamwork as appropriate
- Understanding of industry trends and today's creative landscape—how users engage with content, and trends within the marketing
- Leads by example and brings a positive, high-transparency, and collaborative approach to your work
- Familiarity with working in Adobe Creative Suite with expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and familiarity with Figma, Premiere and After Effects
- Experience managing or providing mentorship to junior creatives while still advancing individual assignments and goals
- Expertise in typography, composition, color, layout, design thinking, and content strategy in the design solutions you create
- Expertise art directing on photo and film shoots and in post production
- Experience briefing photographers and directors, and developing shot lists and art direction for content
What the job involves
- At TIDAL, Art Directors bring their experience, problem-solving abilities, team mentorship, critical thinking, and creativity to our Creative Studio
- You'll collaborate with studio creatives to develop innovative, on-brand solutions that help tell TIDAL's story and amplify our promise of forging connections between artists and music lovers
- You will simultaneously drive conceptual creative excellence and collaboration across multiple projects, ensuring the team delivers multidisciplinary creative projects to support the marketing strategy
- You will maintain and foster relationships with internal and external partners (Creative Production, Marketing, Product Design, Acquisition, design agencies, photographers, producers, etc.) and creatively direct and lead work with those partners to ensure they are aligned with project expectations and TIDAL's Brand standards
- From taking the lead on creative concept development that supports our brand strategies across Social Media, Brand Comms, product launches, and marketing initiatives to understanding product benefits well enough to translate them to the consumers in compelling ways, the daily responsibilities of this role are wide-ranging, exciting, and rewarding
- Lead projects, serving as the go-to art director, or only art director, on a cross-functional team, in charge of the conceptual idea development
- Partner with copywriters, designers, and cross-team to translate content and marketing strategies into creative concepts
- Develop engaging presentations to align partners on the conceptual vision and sell into leadership
- Concept, develop, design, and art direct content that can scale across multiple channels, media, and audiences
- Iterate and communicate ideas across multiple levels of fidelity (mood boards, concept statements, design explorations, art direction boards, style frames, presentations)
- Create outstanding photography, videography direction, typography, branding application direction, design direction for multiple channels and surfaces (Eg. digital)
- Work with creative producers and program managers to develop project plans and ensure that projects are progressing
- Maintain a positive and supportive team mentality in an open environment while leading projects through concept to execution
- Promote work to a variety of audiences, such as all hands, executive presentations, and company-wide meetings
Our take
Block is a financial services technology company comprising of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD. Its biggest brand, Square, offers hardware and software for small to medium-sized businesses enabling them to manage the entire payment lifecycle. It functions similarly to Shopify and Stripe, but has paired online payment processing with physical devices such as registers, payment terminals, and mobile card readers.
The business was originally founded as Square in 2009 by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame. Already well-established with SMEs all over the globe, Square has significantly benefited from the increased demand for mobile payment systems. Its order management feature remains a go-to tool for small businesses that otherwise didn't have the proper infrastructure in place when demand for home delivery surged.
Square rebranded as Block in December 2021, with the Square brand name remaining in place for their seller business. The company has since come under fire for its security practices, facing lawsuits in relation to a major breach of CashApp user data, and in 2024 announced plans to reduce its workforce in order to cut costs. Despite these setbacks, there is every chance the business will move past this, though it may take some time to rebuild trust in its product.
