Role
Who you are
- BS in CS, AE, ME, EE, or equivalent, with 5 years of relevant experience
- Expert proficiency in C/C++
- Familiarity and application experience with software development governed by processes for certified safety critical systems (DO-178B/C, ISO-26262, etc.)
- Proficient using VSCode, Docker, Linux
- Proficient in Python, and shell scripting languages
- Experience in Intel/ARM development
- Experience utilizing an RTOS, preferably an ARINC 653 RTOS
- Experience developing software for real-time embedded systems
- Ability to read schematics and perform basic hardware debugging
- Exposure to computer networking and networking concepts
- You have hands-on experience taking a software product from ideation to customer release and maintenance
- You have a strong and applied knowledge of complex embedded software application design and development
- You have a strong and applied understanding of the agile development process
Desirable
- Developed FAA certified software on prior programs/project
- Familiarity with ARP4754A, DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4761, Part 23/25, regulations, AC XX.1309, or similar standards
- Software development work for legacy aircraft or avionics, autonomous vehicles or remotely piloted aircraft
What the job involves
- The goal of a Senior Software Engineer focused on Embedded Systems at Wisk is to lead Embedded Software development that enables one-to-many supervision of our autonomous aircraft
- You will be part of the Multi-Vehicle Supervision team within the Autonomy & Airspace Integration department
- The Multi-Vehicle Supervision team is responsible for developing the ground software, systems, and UI that enables one-to-many supervision of multiple autonomous aircraft
- In this role you will have the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on aviation by designing and developing embedded software for an autonomous passenger carrying eVTOL service
- As part of the Autonomy & Airspace Integration organization, you will act as a Staff Software Engineer for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
- You will participate and lead in design and implementation of safety-critical and non-safety-critical systems
- You will support Systems Engineering in defining and documenting the technical solution and integration efforts with other projects and external partners
- You will help define software architecture, physical architecture, and integration plans
- You will participate in software requirements development process
- You will develop and integrate software for a real-time embedded system
- You will help coordinate integration and testing efforts
- You will take part in Agile Development processes, cross-functional design reviews, and mentoring
- You will work closely with other Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Suppliers
- You will participate in software requirements development process
Our take
Wisk is developing the first autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing air taxi. Its 4-passenger vehicles are powered by the company's autonomy platform that leverages decision-making logic software to allow the taxis to operate safely and autonomously.
The team at Wisk has been working on this flagship project since 2010, having developed multiple generations of aircraft and conducted over 1500 test flights. It is now on its Generation 6 model that boasts improvements to configuration and a larger passenger cabin compared to its predecessors.
In 2023, Wisk became a fully-owned subsidiary of Boeing. It still operates as a separate entity, but this collaboration gives the company access to the air travel giant's development, testing, and certification expertise. In 2024 Wisk acquired Verocel, a software verification and validation company, a move which will play a key role in getting its air taxis certified.
