Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and proactive problem-solving skills
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5-7 years of development experience on enterprise system software
- Proficient in Golang (preferred), Java or C++
- Proficient in Bash or Python scripting
- Experience in Distributed Systems is a plus
- Experience in Computer Networking is a plus
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus
What the job involves
- As a key contributing member of the Cross-Data-Center-Replication (XDCR) development team, you will be responsible for solving technical challenges related to synchronizing large-scale distributed database systems, for both Couchbase Server and Couchbase Capella
- You will directly solve and optimize complex distributed system problems
- You will be developing a highly-available and concurrent enterprise-grade system software
- Most of all, you will be able to celebrate the wins by experiencing the direct result of your hard work from our customers’ success stories
- Develop features that enhance and improve XDCR for Couchbase Server and Couchbase Capella
- Proactively take ownership in the product, and provide excellent technical ambition in finding solutions to propel the product forward
- Produce enterprise-level quality software and solutions that are performant for a highly-available system
- Exhibit unrelenting motivation to investigate and find causes for customer-facing issues, and to derive optimal solutions in software improvements
- Provide high-quality and detailed technical specifications within the team as well as external teams
Our take
Critical functions for digital business such as compute and storage have become cheaper by orders of magnitude with the advent of cloud computing. However, these businesses still face the challenge of architecting their services under this paradigm. Couchbase’s NoSQL database makes taking advantage of these features possible.
The cloud vendor's major bets on Kubernetes, mobile, and of course, NoSQL have paid off. Many of the world’s largest companies have come to consider this software as mission-critical and Couchbase has benefitted from this as exemplified by its IPO in 2021.
The biggest challenge for Couchbase is that it is playing in a large but competitive market, with the likes of DataStax and the publically traded MongoDB, and all the major cloud vendors vying for similar customers in the NoSQL space. However, Couchbase continues to grow post-IPO and serves influential clients including Mariott International, Amadeus, and LinkedIn.
