Who you are
- Proven experience in executing brand strategy, positioning, creative development, and multi-channel campaigns at scale with measurable impact

- Deep passion for branding, cultural awareness, and an experimental mindset
- 8+ years of experience in brand marketing, brand strategy, or a closely related field
- Proven experience managing macro brand budgets, high-level partnerships, and full-funnel campaign execution
- Experience managing and mentoring functional experts (like Social/Influencer managers), with a clear track record of guiding overarching content strategy
What the job involves
- As our brand scales, we are evolving our marketing leadership to ensure both our product and our overarching brand narrative receive dedicated focus
- Director of Brand Marketing & Activations is responsible for our larger cultural footprint, overarching campaign strategy, and macro brand identity
- In this role, you will be responsible for defining the thematic roadmap for the brand, managing the overarching brand marketing budget, and deciding how and where we deploy campaigns throughout the year
- You will lead community programs/ partnerships and general content strategy while overseeing a team of functional and day-to-day channel owners of our social and influencer programs
- Your role is to provide the strategic "north star," guide their content strategy, manage the overarching budget, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, and fuel the cross-functional integration of brand thinking
- Campaign Support & Execution: Oversee brand-driven campaign intention, concepting, and executions across all channels. Decide how and where we add campaigns throughout the year to build a larger brand story
- Budget & Priority Tactic Lead: Fully manage the brand marketing budget and serve as the point of contact for key organizational initiatives, fueling an internal push towards larger cross-functional objectives
- Brand Identity & Analytics: Continually refine and distribute knowledge about brand positioning across the organization. Support improvements in brand measurement, including various qualitative and quantitative sources
- Wholesale and Retail Planning: Lead in developing strategies to help Bombas show up the right way in existing and new retail channels, as well as programming and team training in our owned stores
- Strategic Partnerships, Sampling, and Giveaways: Responsible for identifying targeted sampling and collaboration opportunities against company objectives. You will find the right properties, places, and partners we should engage with to build our larger story - and develop tracking and measurement tools
- TV/OTT: Support bi-annual spot development from concept to execution and flighting
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Liaise with Acquisition and Retention Teams to align objectives, identifying opportunities to partner, optimize, and improve (e.g., offline, audio mailer, paid social, YouTube, automated emails)
- Strategic Guidance vs. Functional Ownership: Set the overarching content strategy and scale the influencer/ambassador practice. Support the growth of our functional channel owner, ensuring they have the systems, processes, training, and cross-functional relationships needed to perform their best work
- Opportunistic Channel Exploration: Proactively identify and test opportunities with platforms like Pinterest and Reddit to engage target customers where they are
- Mission Integration: Continue to center our mission in our work, making sure that Brand at Bombas is synonymous with our efforts in the homeless population
Our take
Bombas is a direct-to-consumer apparel brand with a social mission. For every item sold, it donates another to a homeless shelter or service in NYC and beyond. The founders discovered that socks were the most requested item at homeless shelters, and it became the original inspiration for the business. To date, the company has donated over 50 million items to various charities.
This philanthropic angle gives Bombas the edge in a crowded clothing market, as consumers hunt for mission-driven products, a trend that is already well in motion. Bombas received B Corporation certification for its commitment to helping those in need, the way it treats employees, volunteer work it undertakes, and how it makes decisions as a company.
While Bombas originally became known as a sock brand, it has since expanded into several new categories, and now offers socks, underwear, T-shirts and slippers. The company generates over $100 million in revenue, capitalizing on direct-to-consumer trends that have seen other mission-led apparel brands like Toms and Warby Parker reach unicorn status in recent years.
Bombas is now expanding to new markets and recently launched in the UK. It kicked off its launch by collaborating with St. Mungo’s, a non-profit that helps people without housing.
