Role
Who you are
- You’re experienced with every step of product development, from brainstorming broad ideas to ensure design quality through launch
- 8+ years of experience working in UX, UI, HCI related field with experience working on mobile applications
- Experience designing consumer products and applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly proficient with design tools (Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
- Highly proficient with interactive prototyping tools (Framer, Principle, Origami, Invision Studio, etc.)
- Excellence in design craft
- Ability to work with a low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional team
- Excited about working in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
What the job involves
- We’re looking to hire a Staff Product Designer who will own the end-to-end experience of Business Travel, focusing especially on how we can create delightful and valuable incentives for riders in our consumer experience
- As a product designer at Lyft, you’ll contribute to our customer-centric culture, and execute effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- You'll partner with designers, researchers, marketers, and product managers to define and create top-notch experiences
- Using your full range of interaction, visual, and product thinking skills, you will lead and own Partner experiences across our product teams
- Drive the Business Travel strategy, owning both the near term impact and long term vision of this product area
- Develop solutions that delight Business Travelers
- Problem solve, think big, and explore divergent concepts/ideas while understanding how to converge and build iteratively towards your vision
- Plan strategically and think tactically as a partner with product and engineering to define the future of the team
- Influence the shape of the product with research and data while executing design work using high quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and cross-platform interactive prototypes
- Advocate for design by sharing your work and presenting cross-functionally, while being able to precisely articulate design rationale
- Inspire the entire team, including cross-functional and business partners, by bringing new ideas to the table
- Create a unified, end-to-end experience through close collaboration with team members from across the Product and Marketing Design Teams
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
