Role
Who you are
- 2+ years experience working at a publisher, media or creative agency managing a brand's digital advertising strategy, creative development and buying activities
- Experience partnering with internal teams to brainstorm solutions that achieve client goals and future needs
- Experience in a client-facing role and comfortable presenting to different audiences, tailoring messages accordingly
- Worked on complex programs across a variety of spend levels and markets
- Experience monitoring and reporting on program performance and delivery by working with distribution and advertising operations teams
- Project management experience and ability to navigate and communicate deliverables with accuracy
- Experience and ability to tell a story using data, research and insights
- Google Product Suite, Powerpoint, Excel, Basecamp, Slack and Boostr knowledge a plus
What the job involves
- BuzzFeed is looking for a detailed customer-service-focused individual to help manage BuzzFeed's advertising operations
- As the Account Manager, you will lead the creation of strategic sales proposals and work with internal teams to develop ideas and concepts to solve client goals that are rooted in storytelling and insights
- You will be your client's primary contact for campaign execution to ensure the success of the program and help promote renewals
- This full-time, hybrid role is located in our New York office and will primarily support our Retail & CPG business
- Partner with Sales in building successful client and agency relationships, growing the partnership and in selling through BuzzFeed solutions and strategy
- Hold a general knowledge of all aspects of industry and clients' business and the ability to apply that knowledge to meaningful insights, counsel and planning for your client's business and BuzzFeed assignments
- Build proposal decks and create media plans in response to RFPs (Request For Proposal)
- Enter and manage insertion orders (IOs) within third-party and internal sales operations systems
- Be your client’s primary contact for the program in relation to campaign execution, performance, and upsells via kick off calls, wrap up/recap presentations and day-to-day correspondence
- Facilitate internal communication between sales and other functions within the advertising org
- Partner with Creative, Production, Distribution and other teams to successfully launch and manage programs and production schedules
- Report to our Director of Account Management
Our take
BuzzFeed is an international media company reaching hundreds of millions of readers each month. The company started life as a platform for viral media, and quickly became known for its online quizzes, listicles, and pop culture articles. At its height, the platform received over 1 billion page views each month.
In 2011, the company launched BuzzFeed News, which won multiple accolades including the National Magazine Award and the George Polk Award before the 2023 announcement it would be shutting down. The closure of its News arm comes alongside similar troubles amongst its online news peers, and has been spurred along by a tough economy, a declining stock market, a slowdown in digital advertising, and changing audience habits.
Despite this considerable blow to its operations, BuzzFeed will continue its presence across YouTube, podcasting and other content, with hopes it will bounce back in the upcoming years. Interestingly, it was announced that HuffPost - which the company bought in 2020 - will continue to publish news as it remains profitable.
