Optimus Ride produces and develops autonomous vehicle with a vision to create a more sustainable and low-cost transport method that can connect communities. With a background that stems from research conducted by MIT over 30 years, Optimus is one of the key players in the automated vehicle (AV) industry.
The robotaxi market is predicted to enjoy strong growth as urban areas look for ways to reduce the environmental impact of traditional forms of transport. For the moment, Optimus Ride is focusing its deployment plans on academic campuses, business parks, and closed communities. These settings offer less risk and can benefit these neighborhoods with their on-demand services. Optimus Ride has recently announced a partnership with Polaris Inc, a sports vehicle manufacturer, who will assist with scaling the manufacture of its autonomous vehicles.
Other major brands in the sector, such as Baidu, Waymo, and Navya, are deploying similar services. The industry is, however, somewhat consolidating with a range of mergers taking place. Those that are left will carry forward valuable IP and capitalize on being first to market. The growth of ride-hailing apps has also shifted behaviors towards on-demand and shared transportation options.
