Role
Who you are
- 5-7 years of software engineering experience
- Proficiency with Python
- Experience designing and building scalable web applications and distributed systems
- Expertise in identity protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, WebAuthn, and FIDO2, with experience implementing scalable IAM solutions
- Strong sense of ownership with the ability and desire to own technical roadmaps and refine ambiguous problems
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners and lead initiatives that cross team boundaries
Desirable
- Solid understanding of frameworks such as HIPAA and CCPA
- Experience building user consent and preference management systems
- Experience with first-party data and/or customer data platforms
- Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare or finance, with a strong focus on security and privacy compliance
- Service design and architecture experience, defining patterns and best practices for others to follow
- Proficiency with FastAPI (or similar frameworks) and Postgres (or similar relational databases)
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer with a focus on customer identity and privacy, you will play a crucial role in scaling healthcare to millions of patients through technology with intuitive web experiences and an end-to-end telemedicine platform serving all 50 states
- With identity, security, and data management at the forefront of modern healthcare, you’ll work in a dynamic environment shaped by evolving regulations, technical challenges, and patient needs
- You will develop a deep understanding of the space, designing exceptional patient authentication experiences and implementing privacy safeguards around patient data
- You will help lead the team’s technical roadmap and be expected to own initiatives from ideation to design, implementation, and maintenance
- Innovate at the intersection of identity, security, and privacy to evolve Ro’s user registration, authentication, identity management, and consent management patterns
- Design and implement scalable, secure identity solutions for customer-facing applications, using protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, WebAuthn, and FIDO2
- Collaborate with product, design, data, security, and privacy teams to build secure, user-friendly experiences that comply with healthcare regulations (e.g. HIPAA) and privacy frameworks (e.g. CCPA)
- Stay current on the latest trends in order to architect systems that anticipate future needs in the rapidly evolving privacy and regulatory landscape

Ro is a healthcare startup that connects patients directly to physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. The founders of Ro established the company because they felt that health insurance wasn’t working as it should, as the pooled cost of expensive treatments means that the price of individual doctor visits is inflated.
Ro’s primary care platform powers a personalized, end-to-end healthcare experience from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care. Instead of having to travel to a doctor’s office, Ro customers can access a video conference with a physician on-demand, from the comfort of their own home.
In order to tap into the global medical market, which is worth over $4 trillion, Ro raised $150 million at a valuation of $7 billion in 2022. It has expanded to more health areas, such as skincare and mental health, and launched an online pharmacy. Despite this, a substantial number of layoffs in spring 2022 indicated that Ro's accelerated growth had caused problems with its internal organization. Having now narrowed its focus and spending more on less, Ro has streamlined its operations and looks to continue on a steady upward trajectory.
