Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on technical experience in software development
- Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams, demonstrated through:
- Prioritizing work effectively
- Conducting performance reviews
- Providing regular coaching and mentorship (e.g., 1:1 meetings)
- Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, with experience in Async IO in Python
- Deep understanding of Linux systems and kernel interfaces
- Demonstrated ability to write secure, maintainable, and high-quality code
- Solid understanding of Agile engineering practices and principles
- Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
Desirable
- Experience with Exasol or other similar database systems
- Knowledge of distributed systems and cluster management
- Familiarity with configuration management tools
What the job involves
- We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our platform team. You will work on Linux system and kernel interfaces to support the containerization of the Exasol installation and provide configuration and administration interfaces for users, and be responsible for a team alongside a Tech Lead
- This role will involve both hands-on technical work and people management responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain services and libraries using modern C++ and Python with Async IO
- Build robust abstractions for process management, synchronization, and messaging across cluster nodes
- Lead the implementation of complex software development projects, such as developing user-friendly administration interfaces
- Make critical technical decisions that impact the platform's architecture and functionality
- Continuously improve system performance, reliability, and scalability, leveraging tools like Neptune for optimization
- Take on the responsibilities of a team lead, motivating and guiding a team of engineers
- Effectively delegate tasks, mentor junior engineers, and foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Ensure timely completion of project milestones and deliverables
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders across different departments to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Actively participate in the resolution of critical customer issues, providing timely and effective solutions
- Champion Agile engineering practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD)
