Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of relevant experience, with a BS / MS in Computer Science or a related field
- Strong background in MVVM mobile architecture and UI development on Android and/or iOS, utilizing Kotlin (Jetpack Compose) and/or Swift (SwiftUI)
- Proven ability to architect, develop, and maintain production-grade mobile applications from scratch
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, product, and design teams to drive features from concept to launch
- Passion for learning new technologies, domains and challenging the status quo
Desirable
- Proven technical leadership in mobile development, with the potential to grow into a management role
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals and a generalist mindset
- Experience working with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) or other multiplatform technologies
- Experience integrating mobile apps with hardware via Bluetooth or similar wireless technologies
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and enhancing developer workflows
What the job involves
- Zoox is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Mobile Apps (iOS/Android) to join the Mobile Apps Engineering team
- The position comes with a high degree of independence and the opportunity to shape our iOS and Android architecture
- Your work will be highly visible, shaping the future of Zoox’s rider experience
- In your development work, and in interactions with infrastructure teams, we will expect you to be essential in establishing practices and interfaces that result in a robust, usable, and secure system: from Rider to Cloud, to Robot
- Lead the engineering design and implementation of major product features for Zoox’s mobile applications
- Architect and develop scalable, high-performance mobile applications for iOS and/or Android
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including rider experience, backend services, AI, mapping, and infrastructure—to design innovative solutions
- Partner with design and product teams to create intuitive, efficient, and seamless rider experiences
- Shape the future of rider experiences in autonomous vehicle ride-hailing, solving real-world challenges
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
