Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate already understands browsers at a deep level. You have (or will gain) rich experience in Chromium internals, networking, video/audio, and advanced HTML5 features such as WebGL and WebRTC
- Excellent C++ skills
- Ability to use modern AI tooling in development workflows
- Strong knowledge of Python, Rust and Javascript are highly desirable
- Strong networking fundamentals
- Strong knowledge of HTTP security is highly desirable
- Experience implementing and maintaining features in Chromium or other browser platforms at various layers, including content, browser, core, compositor, skia and networking
- Systems-level Linux experience
- Good to have: Tornado, haproxy, AWS EC2, WebGL, WebRTC, font rendering, input experience including IME and contenteditable
- Ability to write clean, concise and maintainable code
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, ambitious, and strong ability to learn new things
- Highly organized and detailed with critical attention to detail and documentation
- BSc or higher degree in Computer Science or related field
What the job involves
- Menlo Security is looking for talented engineers to join our US/UK Web Isolation team. You will be responsible for extending and supporting our world-class remote browser technology on desktop and mobile platforms, serving millions of users on Menlo’s worldwide cloud
- Example work areas include Chromium internals, networking, video/audio, advanced HTML5 features, containerization, load balancing, scaling and cost-saving; all of it with a strong security focus
- The Web Isolation team is highly experienced and collegial, with a strong design and code review culture. We encourage candidates with deep systems-level experience in non-browser technology areas to apply if you feel your skill set can be applied to new challenges

Our take
Menlo Security takes a “zero trust” approach to computer threats by isolating all of a business’s web browsing and putting it on a remote server. Instead of depending upon software to scan and search for threats, it prevents attacks from ever reaching the system. Browsing activity no longer takes place on the end user’s device, instead, it all happens on a remote cloud service which is operated by the company. This service is the largest secure web gateway in the world.
Menlo Security has focused on protecting businesses from web and email attacks, and its model means that it can be integrated with most popular browsers. A particularly appealing aspect of its service is that it doesn’t require businesses to install new software or change their approach, drastically reducing friction for users and making onboarding a far simpler experience.
Currently used by 8 out of 10 of the world's largest banks and capable of completely stopping up to 90% of threats, Menlo Security is in a strong position. It is still continuing to develop its services, however, most recently building out a range of AI-powered tools to detect and prevent phishing and ransomware attacks. Moves like this seem likely to help keep Menlo Security at the forefront of its sector.
