Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of Design experience, with a minimum of 3 years startup experience
- Demonstrated ownership of design quality end-to-end for a product or major product area
- Experience holding a strong internal quality bar
- Preference for hands-on design work and desire to stay close to execution
- Comfort operating in a complex environment and being the final Design decision maker
- Fintech / benefits / e-commerce experience is a plus
What the job involves
- We’re hiring a Senior Product Designer to serve as the design owner across our product
- This is a highly hands-on, senior individual contributor role. This person’s primary responsibility will be durable ownership of design output: framing problems, enforcing a quality bar, and shipping reliable coherent designs with high independence and autonomy
- This role is analogous to a Tech Lead in Engineering -- a senior IC who can be unilaterally trusted to own quality and execution for their function
- You’ll own system-level cohesion across the Benepass product, driving unity and clarity across application surfaces
- You’ll be known for your excellence, holding up the quality bar on the team and setting the team’s visual standard
- You’ll be a hands-on designer, partnering with PMs and Engineers and, as needed, directing collaborators or contractors to support execution
- You’ll define how and when design work is reviewed, exercising judgment about which feedback matters and when work is ready to ship
- Take ambiguous product problems and frame them into clear design solutions
- Own the quality standard for design and ensure cohesion and unity across application surfaces
- Complete designs directly and, as needed, direct contractors and collaborators
- Define and run the Design critique process, ensuring high quality designs ship consistently
- Collaborate with integrity and be open to feedback without defensiveness

Our take
The US labor market is creating higher demand for top tier talent, and many companies are looking to improve their benefits as a way of staying competitive. Strong health insurance and holiday policies, however, no longer cut it. Benepass is a benefits administration company looking to help companies stay ahead in this new landscape.
The basic Benepass premise is that pre- and post- tax benefits should be flexible and accessible for employees. As things stand, tax-advantage benefits are hugely under-leveraged by employees, because they are hard to use or unsuitable for individuals. Benepass’ app centralises and simplifies the process, allowing employees to explore, track, and exercise benefits from a single platform and VISA card.
Many platforms directed towards simplifying employee benefits don’t yet offer the same tangible features, and also don't focus on the more complex area of tax-advantage benefits. Therefore, Benepass’ solution is an easy win/win, which is why it has gained strong funding and attention. The latest influx fuels the expansion of its offerings, for example to support more specialized and cost-sensitive employer programs.
