Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have solid networking fundamentals and experience with running distributed systems at scale
- 2+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience with cloud computing technologies (like AWS or similar)
- Experience with at least one of Python or Golang
- Familiar with cloud services
- Familiar with RESTful APIs
- Familiar with code/algorithm complexity analysis
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
Desirable
- Prior experience with insurance or security technologies, internet scanning or vulnerability management
- In-depth knowledge of AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, and the Atlassian tool suite
- Experience working in the InfoSec, Tech or Cybersecurity markets
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Coalition’s Scanning Engine and Data Collection team
- Our team provides critical data to help guide the underwriting of Cyber Insurance policies
- Therefore, you will be working on and creating distributed (cloud) systems to achieve this goal
- This is a fun and driven team of engineers ranging from junior to principal, who are solving extremely challenging problems at internet scale
- This includes broadly scanning the entire internet, deeply scanning all our insurance policy holders and security customers, as well as managing all of our threat intel feed ingestion and backend APIs
- This data powers both our decisioning and pricing for insurance underwriting, our attack surface management tool, Coalition Control, for risk management of both policyholders as well as revenue generation as a standalone security product
- It’s a big challenge and a fun problem to solve and optimize, and it directly affects the success of our entire business
- Create, maintain, test, and debug code for cloud services
- Perform regular code reviews
- Participate in design reviews
- Implement robust code
Our take
The cybersecurity industry has been going through a record-breaking period of investment. This trend has emerged as more companies move to cloud-based networks following the increase of out-of-office work, thus increasing the risk of cyber attacks. However, many cutting-edge cyber defences are too expensive for many companies.
Coalition’s joint offering of cyber security tools, a risk management platform, and cyber insurance allows companies to manage the ever-present risk of cyber threats.
The company has made a strong start since its 2017 launch, raising nearly $800 million in funding. There are a number of other fast-growth startups in the cybersecurity space, including Wiz and Orca Security, but Coalition’s shrewd insurance-based model is what sets it apart from the competition. The company has set out on a path toward global expansion, branching out from the US and Canadian markets to bring its solutions to the UK, whilst also acquiring smaller competitors like JUMBO.
