Who you are
- Recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related technical field
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or personal project experience related to QA, testing, or software development is an asset
- Exposure to automated testing tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium) or strong interest in learning automation
- Basic understanding of web applications and how they work
- Familiarity with a programming or scripting language (e.g., JavaScript, Python) or willingness to learn
- Basic understanding of Agile development processes
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity about how systems work
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
What the job involves
- As a Junior QA Automation Engineer, at Fable, you will help ensure the quality and reliability of our products while building hands-on experience in test automation and modern software development practices
- Fable’s products support organizations in building more accessible digital experiences, and quality is essential to delivering that impact
- You will work within a cross-functional pod alongside Engineering, Product, and Design to support testing efforts and contribute to building high-quality, reliable software
- This role reports to an Engineering Manager and is embedded within a product pod, where you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers
- At Fable, quality is a shared responsibility, and you will work alongside engineers to integrate testing into the development process rather than treating it as a separate phase
- This role is designed for a recent graduate or early-career candidate who is excited about automation, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to grow into a technical QA or SDET career path over time
- Contribute to writing and maintaining automated tests (UI and API) using tools such as Cypress or similar frameworks
- Support test coverage for features, including regression and automation scenarios
- Assist in identifying opportunities to automate repetitive or manual testing workflows
- Perform exploratory and manual testing to identify bugs, edge cases, and usability issues
- Validate features against acceptance criteria and real-world scenarios
- Participate in sprint ceremonies including planning, grooming, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to understand requirements and product behaviour
- Learn and apply best practices for test automation, reliability, and maintainability
- Contribute to documentation and continuous improvement of QA processes
- Support a shared ownership model of quality by collaborating with engineers throughout development
Our take
Assistive tech is not yet sufficiently watertight or widespread to ensure good digital experiences for the 1 billion people who live with disabilities globally. The team at Fable work with companies to help remedy this: they connect companies with assistive tech users so the businesses can accelerate their accessibility R&D, whilst offering employment opportunities to people living with disabilities.
Disability-friendly products are thin on the ground, and successfully creating them would give companies a real market edge. Plus, with social and regulatory pressure making inclusivity an increasingly top priority, adopting sound accessibility design early would give companies a real head start.
It’s perhaps not surprising that large clients in tech and eCommerce have been among the first to jump on board with Fable, as the likes of Slack, Shopify and Walmart can’t afford to be caught lacking on these issues. It is, perhaps, surprising that competition is, for now, relatively light. Fable will need to leverage this position before it’s scooped by other startups.
