Role
Who you are
- MS or higher degree in Computer Science, or a related field, with 7+ years of hands-on experience
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and C++
- Strong background in distributed systems, high-performance computing, and software architecture design
- Experience with data streaming/processing, storage systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
- Extensive experience designing scalable, real-time validation systems
Desirable
- Familiarity with Simulation Frameworks
- Knowledge of autonomous vehicle software stacks
What the job involves
- The Autonomy Evaluation Platform team owns the core validation platform that supports developers across Planning, PCP, and Prediction
- The team is responsible for maintaining and scaling the platform, while also building new features and expanding cross-pillar adoption through Python tooling, APIs, and data engineering
- Their work spans backend API development, Pandas-based data pipelines, and integration with V&V workflows, ultimately providing the infrastructure that powers autonomy development at scale
- You will lead the Validation Platform, leveraging technical skills to maintain a reliable core platform while scaling it to support autonomy development
- You will set the short- and long-term technical direction for the platform, including the development of feature-rich APIs and backend services that enable autonomous development at scale
- You will collaborate with engineers on the design and implementation of the platform, data engineering workflows, and API integrations that connect pipelines and strengthen the V&V ecosystem
- You will partner cross-functionally with Planner, Prediction, and Validation and Verification teams to expand platform capabilities
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
