Role
Who you are
- You have previous experience spanning product analytics, data analytics and data science, and are proficient in SQL and statistical programming in Python
- You have a demonstrated ability to translate analytical insights into clear recommendations and to communicate them to technical and non-technical colleagues
- You have experience leading cross-functional projects end-to-end successfully and in a timely manner
- You understand what an 80/20 solution is and have experience working quickly, iteratively, and know how to prioritize for impact
- You have experience with applied statistics and a breadth of modeling techniques (ex. regressions, clustering, random forests, causal inference) to solve business and product problems
- You’re energetic, curious, thoughtful and passionate about defining problems and reaching conclusions
- You know that data doesn’t fall from the sky in .csv form. You know that there’s a backstory to any data point, so you’re not afraid to dig deep to understand your raw material
- You are a team player. You understand that being a good teammate requires a combination of soft skills & feedback, and is the key to being successful in a matrix organization
- You care deeply about giving and receiving feedback. (An open feedback culture at Artsy is central to how we work!)
- Experience with rapid product development for a consumer facing tech company and domain experience in e-commerce, marketing or SaaS is preferred and directly transferable to our environment at Artsy
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Product Analyst to join the Data Science and Analytics team
- As a Data Analyst, you will translate data into insights and drive improvements to our product, operations, and strategy
- You will question existing assumptions, and will set strategic frameworks to uncover and prioritize new product and business opportunities
- You will focus on the consumer side of our marketplace studying user behaviour and contribute to our vision for the rising number of data products we are launching
- You will be embedded in a product team collaborating closely with a Product Manager, a Designer and a Technical Lead to drive the development of impactful products delighting Artsy users
- The Data Science and Analytics team provides support across all of our products and operations by developing insights and enabling analytical and automated decision making. We build strong partnerships with key stakeholders and foster a data-driven culture in which analytical insights guide continuous improvements across the organization
- You will join a team of experienced analysts and be a part of a fast-growing, collaborative, agile data team which fosters a culture of impact and performance, with ample opportunities for ownership and growth
- You will report to the manager of the Data Science and Analytics Team
- Be a strategic partner to product and business leaders and help drive the right business and product decisions; proactively identify and champion projects that solace complex problems across multiple domains
- Investigate trends of key metrics such as user retention and conversion ; identify root causes and follow-through to make sure your work is understood and acted on
- Identify, implement, monitor, and report on team-wide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Ship data products that improve our understanding of the art market, Artsy’s marketplace, and how to best serve our collectors and partners
- Work with stakeholders to instrument proper tracking and define new data models, design and implement data pipelines
- Design and report on A/B tests using rigorous hypothesis testing methods
- Apply statistical and machine learning models (ie. Regressions, Clustering, Random Forest, Natural Language Processing, etc.) to inform improvements to our business and product such as user segmentation and user preferences
- Build data expertise, best practices and own data quality for all analytical data needs
Our take
Artsy partners with international galleries, auction houses, art fairs, and museums to create the world’s largest online art marketplace for collecting and discovering art, with more than 1,000,000 works by 100,000 artists. The company charges galleries a fee to upload works on the platform and draws a percentage from the sales.
They're looking to disrupt the global art market, which is worth ~$70bn a year and growing, in the style of Amazon or Spotify. However, despite a flurry of online art startups launching in the past decade, the industry remains dominated by elite auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
Artsy is banking on the emergence of young affluent and digitally-savvy collectors, and there should be plenty of opportunity for them to sell products into this group. Numbers indicate that collectors are becoming more comfortable buying art online: the volume of sales on Artsy grew by up to 150 per cent over the past two years.
