Role
Who you are
- 7+ years’ experience building, shipping, and supporting web applications, including 5+ years of experience with React. You’ve seen what works, and what didn’t
- Have independently worked and delivered a small web app or entire feature in a larger web app
- Excitement about working in our mobile tech stack, which includes React, Typescript, and potentially Electron
- Ability to act with autonomy & self-direction while working well in a team environment
- Willingness to pitch in wherever needed - as a fast-moving startup we need to do good work, quickly
- Are comfortable with working across domains and languages with a curiosity to experiment & learn new things
- Deep expertise in using AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows. We’re looking for candidates who have been deep in this for the last couple years
- Bonus points if you have experience with any of the following on web: audio playback, audio recording, file encryption, or online vs. offline mode support
What the job involves
- Abridge is looking for experienced Front End Engineers to join our growing team!
- You’ll play a key role in our technology decisions and implementation, and you’ll see firsthand the impact that we’re making on healthcare
- You’ll build and support functionality primarily in React but also across our APIs and other TypeScript codebases
- As a growing startup at the edge of this wave of AI, you’ll have opportunities to work across our stack and help develop best practices as our industry continues to shift
- Scale up our business by designing, building, and supporting easy-to-use React/Typescript applications
- Make and implement technology decisions that support business needs without compromising security, privacy, or quality
- Enhance existing systems to add new functionality, and to improve performance, stability, quality, and security
- Set standards for accessibility and design system use
- Advocate for high standards; make quality-of-life improvements to the codebase; and help limit the growth of technical debt
- Build deep user empathy and maintain a user-centric mindset
- Communicate regularly and effectively within and on behalf of our cross-functional product delivery teams. You’ll work with other disciplines including design, product, machine learning, and infrastructure, and will have opportunities to learn from and contribute to projects across the company
- Mentor and learn from other engineers
Our take
Summarising key elements of healthcare conversations is crucial for both physicians and patients. Medical scribes, though effective, are costly, and the healthcare system faces funding and staffing crises. This has created a demand for more efficient notetaking solutions.
This is where Abridge comes in; it has developed a HIPAA-compliant AI platform that transcribes, structures, summarises, and provides insights from audio or transcripts of medical conversations. It claims to work across all specialities and offers patient-friendly summaries in easy-to-understand language.
Abridge aims to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system from the patient's perspective, a unique approach among healthtech startups. While companies like Inovia, DOUB, and DeepScribe focus on assisting physicians with medical transcription AI, they lack Abridge's patient-centric features, which are valuable in enhancing the patient experience. Its unique focus, then, is part of the reason why it enjoyed two impressive rounds of funding in 2025 alone.
