Company mission
To make public decision-making more inclusive, participatory, and responsive.
Role
Who you are
- 7+ years working with or for local government (public-sector consulting, planning, community engagement, GovTech BD or partnerships, or launching a market at a startup), with clear commercial wins to show for it: contracts, partnerships, grants or revenue you brought in
- You might be a former planner, public-sector consultant, engagement practitioner or startup operator who has found you love building relationships and closing
- You are a consultative seller with an entrepreneurial mindset: autonomous, organized and process-driven, and resilient enough that long sales cycles and public-sector ambiguity don’t throw you off
- You are an excellent communicator who connects with people across channels and formats, from a first cold call to a council presentation
- You are coachable and collaborative by default, motivated by mission and impact as much as by results
- Based in the US, Eastern or Central time zone, and happy to travel around 25–30% of the time
- 👉 You don't need to tick every box. If you're excited about our mission and bring the drive to grow, we want to hear from you
What the job involves
- Go Vocal, a global GovTech scale-up, is looking for a purpose-driven Senior Business Development Manager to grow our client base across the United States
- If you care deeply about strengthening democracy and know your way around the public sector, this role is for you
- You'll be a key driver of our growth in the US market: opening doors with cities and counties, closing multi-year deals, and shaping how we go to market in the region
- Own the full sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery to demos, proposals, procurement and closing
- Build lasting relationships with local government decision-makers: city managers, mayors, CIOs, communications, engagement and planning teams
- Source your own pipeline: spend a large share of your time on outreach, referrals, nurturing warm leads and events
- Bring structure and seniority to our go-to-market motion and help set the playbook for the NorthAm team
- Work closely with the NorthAm team and with colleagues in Europe
- Share on-the-ground insights with Product, Marketing and Government Success to inform our broader strategy
Our take
Founded in 2015 with the purpose of making decision-making more equitable, Go Vocal (previously CitizenLab) offers a platform used by local governments to enable them to engage people online and make informed decisions.
What was three clients in 2016 is now numbered at around 500 with the company working with hundreds of local governments and organisations across 20 countries. Recent global events have meant that the government plays an even larger role in people’s lives, hence more citizens are willing to engage in policy-making, creating more demand for its service.
The company rebranded in 2024, stating its new name is "a call to government, residents and partners to go vocal". With its bold new brand, it plans to expand further in the US and grow its AI-backed offerings for an even more successful future.
