Role
Who you are
- BS/MS degree in software development or similar/equivalent industry experience
- Experience designing, launching, and versioning APIs
- Experience with Python and AWS tooling
- Experience in frontend development with TypeScript, JS, Node.js, react, or similar
- Demonstrated experience creating production or live web applications
- Experience interfacing with RESTful APIs, CORS and modern authentication systems such as web tokens
- Experience with frontend development tools such as NPM and NextJS
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across multiple engineering teams and able to articulate technical design decisions
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities
- Must secure work authorization in the United States and maintain ongoing work authorization beginning at the time of hire through the entirety of employment
Desirable
- Experience leading teams and/or mentoring junior developers
- Proven track record of proactively starting large, mission-critical projects
- Experience working with webRTC and websockets
- Experience building visualization tools for robots or visualizing 3D data and building performant applications using hardware acceleration
- Experience with ROS and ROS 2 and robotic/automation systems
- Experience with modern deployment tools including docker
- Experience with testing frameworks for front-end applications
- Deep focus on quality and design of products
What the job involves
- As a Technical Lead, Full-Stack Development, you will take on a hybrid role that combines individual contributions to development efforts with leadership responsibilities, including guiding and mentoring the software team
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and innovation
- Design, improve, and extend APIs for GrayMatter Robotics’ on-premise and cloud-based applications
- Build and maintain a customer-facing, performant front-end application to configure and run automated surface finishing applications and visualize critical data necessary to understand the robot and its environment’s state
- Create and optimize systems for synchronizing data between on-premise and cloud-based systems
- Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand customers’ needs and deliver a reliable, seamless user experience
- Build internal-facing front-end applications to support the efficiency of internal teams
- Stay current with the latest technologies in modern full-stack development and make recommendations for integrating them into the team’s toolkit
- Take ownership of large-scale projects, from initial concept to delivery, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met

Our take
There is an increasing labor shortage in manufacturing, and it is threatening the global economy. Human workers have the experience and knowledge for complex tasks but robots can bring consistency and precision, freeing those workers for supervision and quality control.
GrayMatter is executing that thesis with its robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) model. Specifically, it delivers smart automation for tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks. The company bundles its proprietary AI software with off-the-shelf robots, sensors, and tools.
The company is now focused on expanding its team, as well as broadening and accelerating product development, enabled in part by the significant funding it has received. One of its biggest challenges is keeping up with demand in its home market of North America, where it is dealing with a mixture of industries all keen for more robotics work to speedily offset shortages in labor.
