Role

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience (or Masters degree with 2+ years of relevant work experience or PhD with 1+ years of relevant work experience)
  • Experience with experimental design, econometrics, and/or causal inference is a plus but not required
  • Expert level skills at SQL (experience with dbt is a plus but not required)
  • Expertise with Python, R, or a similar data science scripting language
  • Experience with a standard data science software ecosystem: Jupyter Notebooks, pandas, scikit-learn; or RStudio, tidyverse, etc
  • Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a seasoned data scientist to join our team at Afresh to work on some of our most important revenue-growing projects
  • Working from our Data Science and Analytics team, you’ll partner with stakeholders on our Customer teams to measure and demonstrate our product’s impact and help drive improvements
  • As one of the first members of the team, you will be a key player in setting the direction of the team and creating a self-serve analytics culture across the company
  • Partnering with product and business teams to develop effective success metrics (OKRs from product level to company level)
  • Designing experiments to measure the impact of new features on those metrics
  • Partnering with engineering teams to develop product analytics and data monitoring/alerting systems
  • Partnering with our machine learning teams for investigations and feature engineering; and
  • Becoming an expert in our data analytics pipelines and core metrics

Our take

Antiquated inventory management systems are detrimental to grocers money and time. Generalized and paper-based systems result in the over-purchase of stock, and this results in waste of fresh food and financial budgets.

Afresh has created an operating system designed specifically to manage inventory and sales of fresh food. The system is powered by AI to help provide forecasting and analysis of inventories, helping grocers stock more economically and thus waste less fresh food.

The company has grown rapidly in recent years, and they have now partnered with over 3,000 stores in 40 states across the US. Clients include Albertsons, WinCo Foods, Heinen's, Save Mart, Bashas, and Cub Foods.
