Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree or ACCA/CPA designation is preferred
- A minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with a significant portion in a leadership role
- Track record in setting up a highly effective, fully automated accounting function and structured month-end closing process
- Proven ability to design and implement internal controls
- Adept in managing annual audits and external stakeholders
- Strong knowledge of IFRS
- Experience in a multi-country or international setting
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
What the job involves
- At the heart of SustainCERT, the Head of Accounting & Control will lead the accounting function, ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards, and establish a robust internal control framework
- This role will also oversee the month-end-close process and liaise with external auditors for our annual audit
- In your role, you manage the accounting team, ensure a logical and sustainable team setup, and you coach and develop individual team members
- You enjoy working with state-of-the-art software and infrastructure and continuously seek to improve processes through further implementation of automation
- To achieve that, you always stay up to date with local reporting requirements and technological advances in finance
- Your team ensures timely monthly management reports through a highly structured month-end closing process
- Compliance is at the center through constant quality control over daily transactions, rigid data management, and a strong internal control framework
- You report directly to the CFO and proactively advise senior management on risk, compliance, and all accounting-related matters that might impact the business
- Manage the full month-end-closing process, ensuring all entries are accurate through supporting balance sheet and P&L reconciliations for all legal entities. Fully own the consolidated trial balance
- Perform constant quality control over daily financial transactions ensuring accurate and complete records at all times
- Work closely with the FP&A team to ensure alignment and accuracy in management reporting.
- Lead the accounting team (including local accounting firms in different countries) to ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with all operating countries' local and international accounting standards and regulations. Stay updated with financial regulations and standard changes.
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive internal control framework across all financial processes
- Regularly review and update the framework to accommodate the company's rapid growth and entry into new markets
- Ensure adherence to the framework by all departments and provide training as necessary.
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, ensuring all documentation is provided and audits are completed on schedule
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including banks and financial institutions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence
- Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting function, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency
- Advise senior management on risk, compliance, and all accounting-related matters that might impact the business
