Role

Who you are

  • You may have noticed that there was no section listing the skills or qualities required to apply for this specific job. Researches have shown that some people are less likely to apply than others, if they don’t feel like they meet the full list of criteria. So we have decided to take it down entirely
  • We have tried to give you as much details as we could about the purpose, missions and environment of this role; it is now up to you to tell us if you think this is a position in which you could a) have fun and b) bring value to our company

  • You will proactively use data to identify opportunities to grow our business or improve our processes
  • You will be a real sparring partner for Product & Operation leaders, feed their strategy by anticipating the most important product and business questions, and leverage your data & statistical skills to answer them
  • You will drive our self-service approach to analytics, by understanding our colleague’s needs in their use of data, and promoting a data driven culture. The Science & Analytics team is also fully in charge of creating data models in the Data Warehouse (using dbt)
  • You will contribute to shaping the Data Engineering roadmap to deliver the best experience for your colleagues on the data platform
  • Within one month:
  • You will learn everything about our company, our teams, and our vision during the first onboarding week

  • Within 3 months:
  • You will be fully in charge of supporting some area of the business (product or operations), prioritizing your tasks with decision makers from this area
  • You will be confortable with our technical stack (Python, Redshift, dbt, PySpark)
  • You will contribute to larger cross-company projects
  • Within 6 months:
  • You will proactively contribute to the team’s roadmap
  • You will work with engineers and data practitioners on improving our stack and data platform
  • You will share your learnings and best practices within the team
  • And beyond: the data team will continue growing with the company
  • Which means:
  • Opportunities to recruit and mentor new team members,
  • Increased accountability in project leadership,
  • Responsibilities to design and implement new processes, tools and best practices to make sure that your team works even more efficiently

Application process

  • A first interview with Rémi, Tech Recruiter (30 min)

  • An interview with our Tech & Product leaders to discuss our company culture (30 mn)

Our take

In multiple mature markets, companies have been using QuickBooks, Xero and other SaaS solutions for accounting, but it is a fragmented industry with each country using its own software solution. In France, there is no definitive SaaS solution for accounting.

Pennylane wants to overhaul current tools and modernise the tech stack of accounting firms, by connecting directly with third-party services that hold valuable information. Accounting firms can use Pennylane collaboratively by accessing the platform to centralise receipts, create invoices and automate tasks. Instead of sending information back and forth with spreadsheets and photo attachments, both clients and accounting firms can interact directly on the platform.

Pennylane has a significant market opportunity ahead, with an ambitious goal to become the preferred management platform for European companies. The company already claims 50,000 customers. A recent instalment of funding will allow the company to further develop its platform, looking at artificial intelligence for accountants, and expand to other markets in Europe.
