What the job involves

We are looking for Senior Machine Learning Software Engineer to join the Delivery Accuracy team within our Fulfillment initiative
As the Senior Machine Learning Software Engineer you will be responsible for diving into the nuance of Etsy’s fulfillment data to generate ML solutions that help generate real-world predictions for complex calculations such as delivery speed and cost
You’ll be working closely with both Full Stack Engineers and Machine Learning Engineers to bridge the gaps between how we capture data and how we utilize it to build models that can deliver value to end users
You and your team will be responsible for the full cycle of fulfillment-related Machine Learning model development: devising, training, testing, releasing, observing, and optimizing
This position reports to Core Fulfillment’s Senior Engineering Manager
Collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Managers, and Data Analysts to develop solutions to help sellers better run their businesses and remain competitive
Collaborate with our cross-functional teams and business partners across Etsy
Help plan and develop innovative solutions to complex business problems
Develop with an eye on quality, using performance monitoring tooling, automated and manual testing, and observability tools to verify the correctness and quality of your work
Establish and maintain monitoring and alerting systems around Machine Learning for Fulfillment

Our take

Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.

Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.

However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. A hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers created significant discontent amongst sellers. Despite this, Etsy continues to connect artists and consumers, attracting shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
