Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- 2+ years experience in SaaS-based implementations or technical support
- Technical expertise with multiple identity provider authentication systems - CAS, SAML, LDAP, OAuth
- Experience with SQL and Relational Data Models
- Experience and familiarity in working with APIs
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
- Some experience with a programming language strongly preferred
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including end users, upper management, and other departments
- Can conform to shifting priorities and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience working in higher education or K12 experience preferred
What the job involves
- Work with internal resources and end users to determine technical requirements for authentication, SIS integration, business rules, etc
- Assess, evaluate, and propose technical solutions according to customer needs and constraints
- Provide technical consultation for internal resources and customers including best practices and opportunities for efficiency improvement
- Pilot and test new middleware software designed to assist in transferring data between customer data-source software and our products
- Write and maintain complex business rules
- Maintain customer environments for on-premises installation
- Maintain solution ownership from planning to delivery
- Ensure proper documentation is complete, current, and stored appropriately from task start to finish
- Focus on clear and concise communication, both oral and written, to ensure proper expectations are set and comprehension of complex and technical topics is established
- Build and maintain custom tools to increase workflow and productivity for the team
- Minimize Instructure’s exposure and risk as it applies to technical integrations and configurations

Instructure is an education technology company, creator of the Canvas Learning Management Platform that allows schools to build the digital learning environment that meets the unique challenges faced by their institution. The platform simplifies teaching, elevates learning, and eliminates the headaches of supporting and growing traditional learning technologies.
The Canvas platform has grown to become a key part of a large number of educational institutions, from pre-school to higher education and beyond. Much of Instructure's workforce is dedicated to R&D, which is unusual for a company of their size, and shows their focus on innovating.
Founded back in 2008, the company has claimed numerous successes, including going international and hitting the $1 billion market cap. It has made a number of acquisitions, most recently of Concentric Sky and LearnPlatform. The former saw Instructure incorporate Sky's "Badgr" into its ecosystem as "Canvas Badges", whereas the latter adds evidence-based insights to the platform - both cementing its commitment to building the education industry's most integrated teaching and learning platform to support lifelong learning.
Instructure was itself acquired in 2024 by KKR, which will support a broad-based equity ownership program for Instructure employees. This strategy is based on a strategy of employee ownership as a cause of stronger companies. The move is a promising one considering KKRs track record of acquired companies, but time will tell how Intructure fares.
