Who you are
- You will have a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering or other technical subject (note: we will consider equivalent qualifications e.g., level 6 National Vocational Qualification)
- Experience working in a laboratory or other testing environment
- Experience with battery testing and test equipment is a plus, but not essential
- Excellent attention to detail, and a proven ability to work to tight deadlines without compromising quality
- A team player with a proactive attitude, strong communications skills and the ability to work autonomously
- Able to thrive in an innovative, rapidly evolving scaling environment
- Kind and conscientious
What the job involves
- Setting up, conducting and monitoring battery cell, module and pack tests in our laboratory to support both client-facing and internal projects
- Ensuring the integrity and quality of data produced in our laboratory
- Developing test plans in collaboration with other teams in the company
- Analysing test data and communicating outcomes within the company
- Developing, procuring and assembling bespoke test rigs and equipment from time to time, including preparing drawings and procuring custom components
- Assisting in implementing new processes in the laboratory, writing operating procedures etc
- Assisting in defining requirements for future test equipment and rigs, including working with our suppliers
- Helping to maintain a safe working environment in our laboratory and ensuring health and safety compliance, including preparing safety documentation
- Any additional work that may be deemed from time to time to be critical to product or company success

The modern world is becoming increasingly battery-powered. Take electric cars, for example; it is predicted that that by 2025, 20% of all new cars sold across the world will be electric, and this figure is expected to double by 2030. Similarly, in 2021, Nasa announced the X-57, an experimental two-seater plane powered entirely by battery. It is becoming increasingly clear, then, that battery is the future of the modern world.
Breathe is hoping to capitalise on this developing trend. Their software - 'Lincc' - is the first to bring advanced battery management techniques to the electric vehicles and consumer electronics markets. Traditionally, the software managing battery physics and battery models could only be run on powerful workstation or desktop computing environments. Breathe, however, boasts that its software can be run on the low-power, low-cost microcontrollers in electric vehicles and consumer electronics. In practice, this unlocks a suite of potential improvements without any expensive hardware or materials upgrades. Breathe believes this will help accelerate battery technology rapidly to become more efficient, less wasteful, safer and fit for more applications.
Breathe will also benefit from a world which is increasingly focused on sustainability. Battery technology is known to be greener than alternatives, and if Breathe can unlock things like faster charging times and longer battery lifespans, it could really reduce some of the existing barriers to battery adoption.
