Role
Who you are
- Minimum of 8+ years in product design with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in UX/UI design for complex applications
- Proficiency in Figma or similar digital design and prototyping tools. Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis to inform design decisions
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas to stakeholders at all levels
- Proven track record of delivering end-to-end applications within a team environment, from initial concept through to deployment
Desirable
- Experience working on interactive systems or data products, with an understanding of autonomous vehicle technologies
- Experience in designing products that transitioned from prototype/internal usage to customer/external facing, demonstrating the ability to scale designs for broader user adoption and market launch
What the job involves
- We're seeking a Senior/Staff Product Designer to lead the design of products, applications, and tools that accelerate autonomous development and support driverless operations at Waabi
- This role offers a unique opportunity to join our team early and drive the solutions that will propel our company forward
- As the Senior/Staff Product Designer, you'll take charge of large-scale, complex projects involving multiple functional and cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless integration with our cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technology
- Design end-to-end user experiences for products, applications, and tools that accelerate autonomous development and support driverless operations, ensuring usability and accessibility
- Gain deep insights into user needs and workflows to optimize processes and enhance productivity across our product development teams
- Work alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Operations, and Commercial Teams to define requirements and translate them into effective design solutions
- Create prototypes to visualize and iterate design concepts, incorporating feedback to refine solutions and ensure feasibility
- Proactively gather and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve the user experience and address strategic opportunities
- Build a design system to maintain consistency and scalability across all product interfaces
Our take
Autonomous vehicle technology is rapidly developing and many sectors are recognising its value. However, whilst the self-driving industry has made significant advancements there is much more that can be done. There are challenges in this space surrounding scale and developing commercially viable self-driving technology.
Waabi hopes to tackle these challenges and be the leader in self-driving technology with their "AI first approach". The company said that combined with a closed-loop simulator, this approach will allow both common driving scenarios and safety-critical edge cases to be tested at scale - solving one of the key issues in the industry.
Waabi successfully raised one of the largest Series A rounds ever raised in Canada, and has gone on to raise fresh Volvo and Uber-led funding in early 2024. While the company's focus is currently on autonomous long-haul trucking (launching its first generation of trucks in November 2022), the company is well set to lead the next generation of self-driving technology.
