Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience using Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis
- Ability to develop creative, robust algorithms with experience working with real world sensor data and variation, while balancing product needs, reliability, and development efficiency
- Experience with controls process and/or robotics/mechatronics
- Comfortable working with physical hardware and related lab equipment as well as familiarity with embedded environments
- Strong collaboration skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- IOT experience a plus, especially working at the intersection of devices, mobile apps, and services
- General knowledge of cloud providers (such as AWS or GCP) and related tools and ecosystems, especially around data pipelines and analysis
- Expertise in C and RTOS environments
- Familiarity with SQL queries
What the job involves
- Design and develop controls process algorithms in a constrained embedded environment
- Design experiments and data pipelines needed to support validation and optimization at scale
- Organize and analyze recorded data from controlled and uncontrolled settings and incorporate learnings into algorithms
- Collaborate closely with product design and other engineers to determine requirements and constraints
- Identify needs for internal automation, tools, and infrastructure and deliver user friendly, reliable solutions
- Advise architecture requirements for data retention, storage, processing, access, and analytics in the product infrastructure
- Design for scalability, performance, and robustness
- Engage effectively with internal teams and third parties by delivering clear specifications and requirements and managing execution
Our take
Wasted food and its decomposition do more for CO2 emissions globally than the entire airline industry combined. Whilst food waste bins run by local councils in the US do redirect the majority of food waste to recycling plants, there are still holes to plug, which is exactly what Mill is doing.
For a yearly subscription, customers can buy and use a combined waste tracking and impact app alongside the company’s purpose-made food waste bin. Unlike other bins for food waste, Mill’s product shrinks and dehydrates waste so that there’s no smell or runoff. Mill will dispose of your waste themselves, and use it for sustainable chicken feed.
With a number of high profile environmentally-friendly investors behind them, the Mill ecosystem has a range of benefits for company subscribers as well as individuals. Restaurants and offices can subscribe to Mill and help to move towards sustainability goals, whilst partnerships with local farms provide a solid revenue structure.
Mill is only available in the US, but since its successful first-gen launch in 2023, it has been using funding from that year to enhance its product offering and reach a wider market.
