Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on AI/ML systems, including developing and deploying generative models
- Proficiency in machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and Python
- Familiarity with database management and querying, such as SQL, MongoDB, or similar systems
- Strong experience with AWS and IaC tools such as Terraform
- Solid understanding of ML infrastructure, including data pipelines, model serving, and scaling solutions
- Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful AI solutions in production environments
- Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining AI/ML best practices, such as CI/CD pipelines and monitoring
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A collaborative team player with experience mentoring peers and contributing to shared team goals
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer, Generative AI at Headspace, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing the company's capabilities in artificial intelligence, particularly in developing, optimizing, and deploying generative AI models
- Your work will enable innovative applications of AI that align with Headspace's mission of improving health and happiness worldwide
- By developing state-of-the-art frameworks and tools, you will empower engineers, data scientists, and other practitioners to maximize the potential of generative AI across the organization
- Generative AI Model Development: Lead the design, training, and optimization of large-scale generative AI models to support innovative use cases across Headspace
- End-to-End AI Solutioning: Own the lifecycle of generative AI initiatives, from ideation to deployment, ensuring robust and scalable production systems
- Platform Optimization: Build and enhance the generative AI platform using AWS and modern development tools, with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Scalability and Reliability: Ensure the scalability and reliability of generative AI systems by implementing robust CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions, and alerting systems
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to integrate generative AI capabilities into Headspace’s products and services
- Knowledge Sharing and Mentorship: Guide and mentor team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning

The world is facing a growing mental health crisis. In 2022, the US saw the proportion of the population with acute anxiety, depression, or other mental health needs grow from 20% to 40%.
Headspace is a digital mental health platform best known for its guided meditation and mindfulness app, which has expanded into a broader suite of mental health services. Through therapy, coaching, meditation, and self-care tools, the company is making mental health support more accessible and preventative.
In 2021, Headspace merged with on-demand mental healthcare provider Ginger in a $3B deal to form Headspace Health, a move that brings clinical care and everyday mental wellness into a single platform. Today, its services are being used by more than 100M people and over 4,000 enterprises, including Starbucks, Adobe, and Paramount.
Demand for virtual mental healthcare continues to rise, and the market is becoming increasingly competitive, with players such as Hims & Hers Health entering the space. However, Headspace stands out by combining clinical care with everyday mental wellness tools, expanding its offerings through strategic acquisitions like AI health firm Sayana, and now bringing its services directly to businesses in the UK, positioning itself for growth bon a global scale.
