Who you are
- You enjoy and have experience using low-level languages such as C++, Golang or Rust to solve tough problems
- You have strong knowledge of web or native application development in JavaScript, Kotlin or Swift and have shipped complex applications at scale
- You are trusted to work independently because you coordinate with your colleagues to understand the business value, operational impact and security implications of your changes
- You clearly express your ideas and increase your impact by sharing what you learn through documentation and demos

What the job involves
- The Sync team is looking for a senior software engineer who is motivated by curiosity, continuous learning and working collaboratively in the open
- If you already know why Rust is the most-loved programming language (or maybe you are ready to learn it and love it too), we'd like to talk with you about joining Mozilla, where you can help our small, distributed team bring the connected Firefox experience to more of our global users
- Provide Firefox users with a seamless experience to access and control their personal and browsing data (history, bookmarks, logins and more) across all of their devices
- Help us evolve the Application-Services library at the core of our sync and storage features, and continue to support its implementation in Firefox on all platforms
- Grow your knowledge of the Firefox browser to support Sync and Send/Close tab functionality across devices
- Partner with engineers on and off the Sync team to deliver features that strengthen the utility and agency of Firefox for our users
- Provide constructive feedback, timely reviews and well-documented ideas to help us improve our team practices and skills
Our take
Mozilla creates and manages a range of free-to-use software products. Their most well-known product is Firefox, the fourth most popular internet browser in the world. Mozilla is a not-for-profit with a focus on promoting online privacy. The company has a published manifesto outlining its commitment to keeping a balance between commercial profit and public benefit.
The companies other products include Bugzilla, a bug management platform, and Pocket, an award-winning digital content filing service. In direct odds with Google, Mozilla has recently launched a new product Mozilla VPN. The VPN or virtual private network enables users to browse the internet without being tracked. Companies such as Google rely on tracking user behavior online to target them with advertising.
Mozilla was also instrumental in creating the programming language Rust, which is admired for its brevity. Rust uses roughly half the amount of code as C++ to produce the same results.
