Who you are

6+ years of experience as a user researcher in enterprise software products
Experience mentoring UX research teams and building customer-centric cultures within cross functional organizations
Experience developing foundational research practices, including but not limited to structuring research repositories, improving customer outreach in a B2B business model, and democratizing research across product team
Experience in building and leading research projects with a proven record of excellent leadership
A passion for Planet’s mission to use space to help life on Earth

What the job involves

Be the champion for Planet’s users. Identify their challenges and opportunities via qualitative and quantitative methods, and infuse the knowledge into the product development cycle to help craft elegant solutions
Strive to make Planet an insights-driven company by collaborating with data science, marketing, design and product leadership
Encourage and build a research-drive culture that fuels innovation by engaging employees in decision-making and development of new product and process improvement ideas
Work with design leadership and cross-functional partners to define a lasting vision for the product, informed by research insights
Support an incredible UX team, balancing bottom-up and top-down decision making, and mentoring their career growth and development

Our take

Planet’s high resolution, high frequency Earth-imaging satellites make daily changes in the earth more visible, allowing the company to provide quick turnaround geo-spatial data to its customers. The company was founded by a group of former NASA employees driven by a desire to make global change more actionable by rendering it more visible.

Planet operates the largest Earth-imaging satellite network available, putting it ahead of any competitors. Its landmass data is easy to access, requiring only a subscription from its members - who range from ecological organizations, to private companies and government bodies. The company is also supporting SES and Telesat on their space relay projects for NASA.

The current focus of Planet seems to be on employing its network towards climate and environmental issues. A partnership with Accenture comes with the goal of developing AI-powered geospatial intelligence tools to support sustainability projects; and the company's acquisition of Salo Sciences will allow it to develop offerings around enabling customers to quantify carbon stocks, monitor forest change, and mitigate climate risks.
