Role
Who you are
- Carina is looking for an entrepreneurial leader with a product or engineering background to join as an Entrepreneur in Residence ("EIR"). This person will shape the vision for and build a widely accessible elementary math competition series that feels like a digital puzzle hunt. Our vision is to make mathematics events engaging and accessible to all elementary school students nationwide.
- The EIR will have 12 months to (i) Explore the opportunity space (ii) Develop a vision, model, and MVP (iii) Execute several pilots
- If the EIR phase pilots prove successful, Carina will provide funding and assistance to establish an independent nonprofit organization with the EIR as CEO. We are prepared to lead significant funding rounds (initial funding of $2M+) to achieve scale
- The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience leading digital product or engineering teams, particularly in early-stage or growth environments
- Track record of building and shipping consumer-facing digital products with excellent user experience
- Strong strategic thinking with ability to balance user needs and business objectives
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make data-informed decisions in uncertainty
- Experience building and leading small teams
- Proven ability to collaborate with external partners and stakeholders
- Passion for making mathematics engaging and accessible to elementary school students
What the job involves
- We have secured partnerships with world-class puzzle design studios for content creation, enabling the organization's leader to focus on the below
- Define and execute the product vision for a digital-first mathematics competition platform that celebrates mathematical thinking rather than tests fluency
- Design a sustainable growth and monetization strategy that maintains accessibility while supporting platform development
- Design an exceptional user experience for both teachers and students
- Develop features that support classroom implementation and reduce administrative overhead
- Integrate word problems and interactive puzzles that make mathematics engaging and accessible
- Position the platform as an engaging, teacher-trusted brand that brings mathematical joy and problem-solving to classrooms
- Develop partnerships with schools, districts, and mathematics organizations to drive adoption
- Adapt best practices from organizations with successful viral events and experiences (e.g., Code.org)

Our take
In the world of science and technology there's a big problem. Too many kids, especially from underrepresented communities, don't have the math training they need to pursue careers in these fields. Math is the foundation of science, engineering, and computer science, but far too many high-achieving kids lack access to high-quality math development programs, limiting their potential to thrive in these areas.
To fix this, Carina Initiatives is steppin in to create a more inclusive math talent system. It hopes to strengthen math pathways throughout K-12 education and supporting top universities in recruiting diverse talent, to make sure more students can reach the frontiers of science and technology.
Already the company is making big strides by partnering with various institutions, creating more opportunities for students from different backgrounds. Its on an exciting path and as it continues to grow, its ready to help even more students reach their full potential and build the next generation of innovators.
