44.01 is doing this through accelerating the peridotite mineralisation process (where CO2 dissolved in rainwater reacts with peridotite). In nature it can take decades to mineralise a small amount of CO2, yet 44.01 has found a way to potentially mineralise billions of tons a year.

Initial pilots have proven the process to be safe, and as the company scales operations the safety and environment will remain top priorities. It's also shown to be cost effective, with 44.01 creating a carbon credit to be sold in the open market for every ton of CO2 mineralised. Crucially, carbon credits for mineralised CO2 are more valuable than carbon ‘storage’ which never truly removes the CO2 and requires lifetime monitoring and insurance. The concept is revolutionary and could have a huge impact on the climate change crisis.
