Role
Who you are
- 4 – 7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 1 year in a true HRBP seat — not HR admin, not systems, real business partnership
- Direct experience supporting EPDD or R&D teams — engineers and PMs came to you, not around you
- Real advisory instincts: you've shaped decisions, not just supported them, through pattern recognition, data, insights, and strong instincts
- Proven experience managing leave programs and immigration cases — you know the details and don't drop the ball
- Genuine AI fluency — you've built or improved a workflow with AI, measured the impact, and want to go further
- Strong Canadian & US employment law knowledge
- HRIS experience (Rippling preferred)
- Toronto-based and energized by in-person collaboration — Tues/Wed in office minimum

What the job involves
- We're looking for an HR Business Partner who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution
- You'll be the embedded People partner for our EPDD org — Engineering, Product, Design, and Data — bringing both advisory depth and operational excellence to a fast-moving team that expects a trusted partner who can keep up

- Strategic Partnership (~60%)
- Serve as the dedicated HRBP for EPDD managers and senior managers — proactively building relationships, not just showing up in a crisis
- Coach leaders through performance conversations, complex ER cases, and difficult people decisions with speed and good judgment
- Partner on org health: use data to spot patterns, anticipate friction, and help leaders see around corners as we scale
- Support performance management cycles end-to-end — feedback, documentation, PIPs, and exits when needed
- Be an approachable and accessible partner for Homies across the team, when they need support or guidance on moments that matter in the employee lifecycle
- Operational Excellence (~40%)
- Own leave management for EPDD employees across Canada and the US — accurate, compliant, and handled with care
- Support Canadian immigration cases, partnering with legal counsel and employees through the process
- Be the team's subject matter expert on Canadian employment law and market practices
- Use AI to improve how you work — automate what can be automated, build what's missing, streamline what's slow

Our take
Homebase provide employees and businesses with time tracking applications, with a range of other HR functionality built in. Homebase automates the process of managing employee scheduling, and also helps companies improve internal communications.
The company contributes to the reduction of paperwork in an office by turning an array of devices into time clocks that track hours and overtime, while also providing payroll support. This makes it easier for companies to remain in sync, running a more efficient operation as a result.
Given that Homebase's customer base of small businesses is not able to pay a lot for its product, scale is the key driver in the company's future success. With over 100,000 customers already, its significant venture capital backing will ensure that the company will be able to grow (notably it's investing in Canadian talent) to provide its services on a profitable scale.
