Role
Who you are
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevEx, or a related field, with a proven track record of improving developer productivity and experience
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, Python, Javascript/Typescript, Ruby, etc.) and scripting languages
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong proficiency in infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
- CI/CD Tools: Proficient in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Github Actions, CircleCI, ArgoCD, or similar
- Container Orchestration: Expertise in container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm) and experience with managing large-scale container deployments
- Cloud Infrastructure: Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Tooling and Automation: Experience with developing and integrating developer tools and automation frameworks
- Developer Productivity Tools: Familiarity with tools and platforms that enhance developer productivity, such as IDE plugins, code analyzers, and build tools
Desirable
- Leadership: Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- DevEx Focus: Demonstrated passion for enhancing developer experience and productivity through innovative solutions and tools
- Internal Developer Platforms (IDP): Experience with IDP platforms such as Backstage and Humanitec
- DevOps Integration: Understanding of DevOps principles and practices, ensuring seamless integration between development and operations
- Experience with Observability: Proficiency in monitoring, logging, and tracing tools to ensure platform reliability and performance
- Security Best Practices: Knowledge of security principles and best practices in cloud and containerized environments
What the job involves
- As a Senior Platform Engineer focused on Developer Experience (DevEx), you will be responsible for enhancing the productivity and satisfaction of our development teams
- You will design, develop, and implement scalable platform solutions, optimize development workflows, and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Your expertise in building developer-centric tools and platforms will be instrumental in creating a seamless and efficient development environment
- Platform Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure platform services and tools that enhance the developer experience
- Tooling and Automation: Develop and integrate tools that automate repetitive tasks, improve code quality, and accelerate delivery pipelines
- Workflow Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in development processes and implement solutions to streamline workflows, reduce friction, and improve efficiency
- Measure Developer Experience KPIs: Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to developer experience to continuously assess and improve the platform's and tools' effectiveness
- Collaboration and Advocacy: Work closely with development teams to understand their needs, gather feedback, and advocate for platform improvements
- Documentation and Training: Create comprehensive documentation and train developers to use platform tools and services effectively
- Monitoring and Support: Implement monitoring and logging solutions to ensure platform reliability and provide support for platform-related issues
- Innovation and Best Practices: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in platform engineering and DevEx, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve our platform

Founded in 2015, Stash was created in response to studies showing that 44% of Americans don’t invest in stocks, 70% of households don’t have a long-term financial plan, and 68% are afraid to retire. Stash offers beginner retail investors the tools to invest small amounts in stocks and exchange-traded funds. It aims to help new investors learn the ropes, offering preference-tailored guidance and digestible investment summaries.
Its service, although pricier than competitors like Wealthfront and Acorns, remains competitive through its highly educational and beginner-friendly focus. This is a lucrative feature for Stash, given the recent surge in first-time and amateur retail investors. The company has more than 6 million customers, and its assets under management total about $3 billion.
Its focus on long-term profit over day trading is refreshing in the retail investment app market. It could prove especially attractive to its younger customer base (average age 29), who are on the whole trending away from traditional legacy banking and looking towards new, innovative financial platforms.
Stash was not immune to the market turmoil of 2022, which particularly impacted the fintech sector, and was forced to restructure. Having streamlined the business, it received major funding and a leadership change in 2023. Stash is now setting its sights on an acquisition or public offering in the near future.
