Who you are
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or in progress preferred
- Minimum 3+ years of Canadian payroll experience with multi-province exposure
- Strong knowledge of CRA guidelines and provincial employment standards (Ontario, British Columbia, etc.)
- Proficiency in payroll systems and MS Excel; UKG Pro experience is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
What the job involves
- Power your future with Qualus in our Human Resource department as a Payroll Specialist. We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist with in-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll practices and provincial employment legislation
- This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple provinces, adhering to federal and provincial regulations, and maintaining exceptional data integrity
- Administer full-cycle payroll for Canadian employees, including hourly, salaried, and contract staff
- Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements and provincial employment standards
- Calculate statutory deductions (CPP, EI, income tax) and apply provincial rules for vacation pay, statutory holidays, and leaves
- Prepare and file year-end documents such as T4, T4A, and RL-1 slips
- Manage CRA remittances and provincial health tax reporting
- Stay current with legislative changes impacting payroll and communicate updates to stakeholders
- Conduct audits on payroll inputs and outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Validate job changes, salary adjustments, and benefit deductions
- Utilize payroll platforms (e.g., UKG Pro) for processing and reporting
- Generate payroll reports for reconciliations, tax filings, and general ledger entries
- Respond to payroll inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax forms
- Provide guidance on provincial leave entitlements and statutory holiday calculations
