Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in workplace, office administration, hospitality, or related fields
- Tech-savvy with advanced knowledge of G Suite
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Workplace Experience, Facilities Management, Events, or a related field
- Proven experience in office management, employee experience, or event coordination in a fast-paced, creative environment
- Strong project management skills with sharp attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized with strong execution and follow-through
- Resourceful and solution-oriented problem solver
- Experience managing budgets and negotiating vendor contracts
- Willingness to travel up to once a month
- Comfortable serving as the face of ThredUp for onsite candidates
What the job involves
- The Workplace Experience Specialist will support the team at the Oakland office
- This person will focus on creating a top notch workplace experience, ordering supplies as needed, managing the onsite candidate experience, executor (or creator!) for company events, design communication documents that can be used company-wide, and help ensure our Oakland office is an incredible place to work
- This person must be highly organized and efficient with a passion for building a world class workplace experience
- The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment where two days are rarely the same
- The Workplace Experience Specialist reports to the Senior Director of Talent Development & Workplace Experience
- Create meaningful connections by planning and executing events, volunteer opportunities, and team activities that bring our culture to life and strengthen engagement across Scottsdale, Oakland, and distributed teams
- Elevate the employee experience by shaping office environments that foster collaboration, productivity, and a sense of belonging, while partnering with IT and other teams to introduce tools that enhance how we work together
- Lead seamless execution of leadership retreats, company gatherings, team-building events, and on-site visits, ensuring every detail reflects ThredUp’s culture and values
- Keep employees informed and connected as the main communicator for the Oakland office, sharing updates, announcements, and event details that drive clarity and alignment
- Oversee day-to-day operations by coordinating with vendors and property management, ensuring facilities, supplies, meals, and services support a smooth workplace experience
- Manage resources effectively by tracking budgets, handling expenses, and maintaining vendor relationships to deliver high-quality experiences
- Support People Team initiatives through project contributions, scheduling, and the rollout of new tools that enhance the employee journey
- Champion culture and belonging by partnering with leaders to design initiatives and spaces that inspire employees and reflect ThredUp’s mission
Our take
Over 40% of Gen Z consumers claim to have bought used clothing as opposed to 20% of Gen X and Boomers. Yet, despite this change in fashion trends, consumers must often rely on brick-and-mortar thrift stores and unregulated second-hand eCommerce marketplaces in order to access to find pre-owned clothing.
ThredUp provides an online marketplace for the buying and selling of secondhand fashionwear, offering affordable prices on discount clothing whilst promising a regulated and consistent approach to quality and cleanliness standards. The company acquires its clothing through sellers sending packages of clothing, which the company then sifts through to decide what is sellable and what should be returned.
The company went public in 2021 and immediately acquired Remix, a European second-hand fashion outlet, as part of its international expansion plans. It has however struggled to achieve profitability thanks to global economic turmoil and a glut of new clothing in the fashion industry causing prices to drop sharply. It is focusing on reducing its operating costs and expanding its storage capacity, and is expected by analysts to weather the current conditions in good form.
