Who you are
- Self driven, directed, and motivated for excellence
- A strong communicator with excellent technical writing, with experience in building maintainable and well-documented codebases
- Possess solid knowledge of software engineering, technical principles, and technical architectures, with at least 5 years of real-world experience as a developer or engineer
- Highly Proficient in Golang
- Previous experience maintaining or contributing to open source software
- While experience in the blockchain space is preferred – having general excitement about web3 and modular blockchain technology is a must!
What the job involves
- The Celestia Labs Team is remote first and highly distributed, with English as our primary language for communication
- We are looking for self-starters that are excited about working in a fast-paced startup environment. We do not require team members to live in specific timezones, but much of the team lives and works in the European timezones
- As such, team members are expected to be available as needed for team and company events that are scheduled. Generally these are scheduled between 1pm-6pm CET
- Celestia Labs is looking for an elite Software Engineer to join the Celestia Node Team
- You will be working on a highly technical team, operating across a cutting edge set of disciplines to support continued improvement of Celestia’s node software as we solve data availability for teams building whatever
- This role will be of specific interest if working at the frontier of performance, scalability, storage, p2p networking and security in blockchain systems appeals to you with a heavy bias for shipping
- Ownership of parts of the Celestia Node codebase
- Contribute readable, well-tested, and well-documented code to Node and related repositories
- Participate in technical discussions on issues and code reviews on pull requests
- Be a part of the feedback loop between technical specification and implementation
Our take
Blockchains have traditionally been built as "monolithic" systems, where execution, consensus and data availability are bundled together in a single chain. That model, used by networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum, has proven secure but difficult to scale without trade-offs. Celestia takes a different approach. Rather than trying to be another all-in-one chain, it focuses purely on data availability and consensus, allowing developers to plug in their own execution environments. Simply put, it provides the foundation layer so others can build custom blockchains on top without starting from scratch.
Since launching its mainnet, Celestia has moved from theory to infrastructure and now acts as a live data availability layer for rollups and other modular chains, positioning itself as core plumbing for the next generation of Web3 applications. By separating responsibilities across layers, it aims to make blockchains more scalable and flexible, while still maintaining decentralisation. So instead of competing directly with major chains on transaction feeds alone, Celestia competes on architecture, offering builders a toolkit rather than a finished product.
The bet is that the future of crypto won't be one dominant chain, but many specialized ones. If that modular vision continues to gain traction, Celestia could become a foundational layer powering dozens (or hundreds) of networks behind the scenes. The challenge now isn't proving the concept, but driving sustained adoption in an increasingly competitive data availability market.
