Who you are
- Strong experience in frontend engineering (React/Next or similar)
- Ability to rapidly prototype and turn concepts into functional experiences
- Excellent collaboration skills with Product and Design partners
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and shaping first-version experiences
- Proven experience using AI as part of your design and engineering workflow, for generating UI, exploring component variants, translating Figma ↔ code, simulating logic, and accelerating documentation

What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our BUX team based in Amsterdam
- The Web team is building BUX’s new desktop investing experience, a major strategic step for a company that has historically been mobile-only
- We’re a cross-functional group with product, frontend, and backend engineering, design, and QA, working closely with Mobile, Onboarding, Marketing, Data, Operations, and Compliance
- We work with a modern, AI-assisted approach: using AI for discovery, design exploration, rapid prototyping, and workflow acceleration
- As a team, we value clarity, strong execution, and smart use of AI to amplify what we can deliver together

- You’ll help define and build the foundation of BUX’s web experience, shaping our design system, validating financial flows, and accelerating product development with practical AI-powered workflows. This role sits at the intersection of product design, frontend engineering, prototyping, and modern AI tooling
- You’ll move from concept → prototype → production-adjacent implementation, influencing product direction through hands-on creation and helping the team progress from early problem definitions to validated solutions quickly. You’ll bring strong craft, interaction quality, usability, and thoughtful system-level thinking as we build the foundations of our web experience
- Contribute to discovery workflows: user research, competitive analysis, and AI-assisted exploration and help shape problem definitions before moving into solutions
- Build interactive prototypes and functional flows that validate product direction and reduce uncertainty, translating UX direction into high-quality, production-adjacent, desktop-first web interfaces
- Shape and maintain BUX’s web design system alongside Design, applying strong interaction and visual craft, usability, accessibility, and system-level thinking to create scalable patterns
- Introduce and operationalise AI-powered workflows to speed up design, prototyping, and documentation
- Collaborate with Mobile, Engineering, and other teams to ensure conceptual consistency across platforms, without forcing mobile patterns onto the web
- Validate financial and user flows in real environments to ensure the web product scales with future complexity
- Communicate design decisions clearly through prototypes, documentation, and concise storytelling

Recent innovations in banking and apps have opened the door for the average consumer to engage in a new set of financial services. BUX facilitates this as Europe’s fastest growing neobroker.
While the application has not reached the omnipresent level of market leaders like Robinhood, BUX is the first and only business to have built a full-stack system of its own, giving it an ability to adapt and scale in a way competitors cannot. Keeping up with the evolving investment space, the company launched BUX Crypto in 2022, granting its thousands of users access to trading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Also in 2022, the company purchased the retail arm of neobroker Ninety Nine, with all its existing retail customers moving over to BUX. This has significantly bolstered its Spanish marketshare, as it moves ahead with a strategy to double down on its flagship application and help clients build long-term wealth moving into the future. The sale of BUX's Cyprus arm to Coinbase in 2024 will allow BUX to hone in on market presence and product capabilities.
