Who you are
- Degree in UI/UX Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or related field
- 1-3 years of professional experience in UI/UX design, preferably in tech or science environments
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design and visual sensibility
- Proficiency in Figma (Auto Layout, Components, Prototyping) and familiarity with design systems
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and HTML/CSS; understanding of responsive design
- Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in a fast-paced environment
- Fluent in French with professional proficiency in English
What the job involves
- As Junior UI/UX Designer, you will shape the user experience and visual identity of BioApp, Interstellar Lab’s digital platform for monitoring and operating our biofarming systems
- You will design intuitive, functional, and visually cohesive interfaces that bridge our hardware and software environments, working closely with engineers, designers, and scientists
- Design and refine user interfaces for BioApp across web and mobile platforms
- Maintain and organize the Figma workspace, ensuring consistency across teams
- Define user flows and interaction logic for intuitive, efficient operation
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and visual systems aligned with our brand identity
- Develop UI mockups and graphic assets consistent with Interstellar Lab’s design language
- Conduct design reviews and iterate based on feedback from internal users and stakeholders
- Ensure usability, responsiveness, and accessibility standards are met
- Stay informed about emerging UI/UX trends and tools to enhance product design
Our take
Biofarming involves the farming of plants for biologically active ingredients, such as might be used in medicines or beauty products. The conventional approach to sourcing such materials often involves chemicals that harm the planet, so Interstellar Lab steps up to address this silent yet significant issue.
At the heart of Interstellar Lab's mission is the BioPod, a contraption that redefines cultivation practices by accelerating production cycles, enhancing the yield of bioactive compounds in the plants it grows. What sets the product apart is its potential for deployment beyond our planet, though for now the company's target is the beauty industry.
A place in the L’Oréal's Green Sciences Incubator programme marks a significant stride in the company's progress, and success in this venture could lead to L’Oréal adopting BioPods for its own production. It has raised a total funding of $10M over four rounds and enjoyed a grant from NASA in 2024. Interstellar Lab is creating a solid foundation for future growth, and there is every chance the company will play a pivotal role in reshaping the beauty industry's approach to ingredient sourcing.
