Role
Who you are
- You’re an experienced backend developer who is fluent in Java and/or Kotlin
- You’ve worked with live backend services before, and you’re comfortable operating cloud infrastructure (We use AWS)
- You know how to troubleshoot complex issues in production environments and enjoy the mix of bug-fixing, fine-tuning, and forward-planning that comes with live operations
- You communicate clearly, ask questions, and enjoy working through problems with teammates from other disciplines
- You’re self-directed but collaborative, happy to own your part of a feature while staying connected to the bigger picture
- You care about the player experience, and you bring that mindset into technical discussions
What the job involves
- As a Backend Developer at Snowprint, you get to build the systems that bring features to life in Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus
- It could be anything from guilds and leaderboards to tournaments and live events
- You define APIs, optimize infrastructure, and take ownership of backend features from idea to live deployment. Always with the player experience in mind
- You’ll work in a small, experienced, cross-functional team where ideas and feedback are shared freely, and everyone’s input is encouraged and valued. Together we continuously learn new things, evolve and try to improve how we work and build our games
- You’ll develop backend systems that serve our players, such as chat, leaderboards, multiplayer, and more
- You’ll own your features from planning through to release, including design, implementation, testing, and live operations
- You’ll closely collaborate with client devs, designers, and artists to ship features that land smoothly and reliably
- You’ll build tools and workflows that speed up development and help teammates do their best work
- Together with the team you’ll keep the game live and stable by participating in on-call, solving bugs, and improving performance

Our take
Over the years mobile devices have become more and more powerful, and as a result people playing games on them have begun to expect more from what's on offer than the relatively simple titles of yesteryear. Recognising this change in the market, mobile gaming veterans from King, DICE and Rovio came together to form Snowprint Studios, a games developer aimed squarely at the growing "midcore" gamer demographic: players who game daily and expect a little more depth than casual clickers.
Snowprint has to date produced three major releases: Legend of Solgard, Rivengard and Warhammer 40,000 Tactitus (based on the popular Games Workshop franchise). These games have attracted uniformly high reviews for their tight gameplay and high production values, and the company has grown a player base of millions across its properties.
Developing within the Warhammer franchise was a smart move for Snowprint, as it taps into a player base that is comfortable with repeated microtransactions (in its original incarnation, it was a rather expensive tabletop miniatures game where figures are bought individually or in small groups). An acquisition by Modern Times Group in 2023 meant that the Swedish game developer could utilise MTG's Flow Platform - a business intelligence tool. Its purchase will also allow Tacticus to expand to other platforms, expanding the reach of Snowprint's games.
