To connect every mobile money wallet in Africa to each other and to the world.
Desirable
Outside of Nigeria and South Africa, using mobile money is the easiest and most common way for people in African countries to send and receive money. But because mobile money systems are run by different telecom companies, they sometimes don't work well together, making it not only hard, but expensive for businesses to handle payments across multiple countries.
pawaPay is a UK-based company fixing this problem by building one simple system that connects all these different mobile money networks. So, instead of dealing with several telecom companies separately, businesses can use pawaPay's API to make payments easily across countries. The company handles the difficult parts, like working with local operations, and is already active in places like Kenya, Ghana, and Uganda.
Recently, it raised significant funding too, so it's ready to help grow its team and expand into even more African countries. Operating in 18 markets and processing over 10M transactions every week, pawaPay has set its sights on a major milestone: 1B total transactions. Its success shows just how big the need for better mobile money tools across Africa is and how much potential still exists in a market that other companies often ignore.
